About Mercedes-Benz cars

Few car makers have a history stretching back as far as Mercedes-Benz. While the company dates from 1926, it can trace its origins all the way back to the Benz Patent-Motorwagen of 1886.

That’s widely regarded as the first internal combustion engine car. So, if you want a more venerable brand, you’ll need to find one that was making carts for horses before the first engine rumbled into life.

There have been some controversial periods in the brand’s history, but also some real high points in motor sport and on the road.

Today’s Mercedes has a broad range of cars, powered by petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electricity. There are hatchbacks, saloons, SUVs, coupes – you name it, Mercedes-Benz probably makes it.

Mercedes sells pure electric cars with EQ badging. They’re among the most upmarket EVs on sale. Like other car makers, it’s moving towards a fully electric future.

While Mercedes used to have a reputation for reliability, the halo has slipped in recent decades. It’s not usually a high-flyer in reliability surveys. There can be big differences between models, though. Some have well-known foibles, while other Mercedes models are more robust.
