Car changing is a big deal
This is the new Aston Martin Vanquish, and it marks the resurrection of the nameplate after a six-year hiatus.
- New Aston Martin Vanquish revealed
- Flagship supercar has a V12 engine
- Muscular exterior styling
- 835hp and 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds
- Sporty suspension for agile handling
- Production limited to 1,000 per year
The all-new Aston Martin Vanquish is here, and it’s a 214mph supercar with a whopping 5.2-litre V12 engine under the bonnet.
It sits above the DB12 as Aston Martin’s flagship supercar, and it’s an alternative to the Ferrari 12 Cilindri. Only 1,000 of these cars will be built each year.
New Aston Martin Vanquish design
The new Aston Martin Vanquish is a tale of two halves from a design point of view. From the front it’s pretty easy to mistake for other models in the range, but it’s totally unique from the rear.
Starting at the front, it looks a bit like the love child between a DB12 and a Vantage. It has the Vantage’s eyes in the form of swept back LED headlights, however that massive front grille looks like it’s taken straight from the DB12.
It’s from the side that the Vanquish starts to set itself apart. It has a much more muscular silhouette than other Aston Martins thanks to the flared wheel arches and chunky side skirts, while the 21-inch forged alloy wheels are wrapped in sticky Pirelli tyres.
Moving to the rear you have a squared-off stance with a sporty ducktail spoiler and some carbon fibre trim between the sleek LED tail lights. The quad tailpipes are also suitably aggressive-looking, as is the massive lower diffuser.
New Aston martin Vanquish engine and performance
Under the bonnet you’ll find a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, making it the only 12-cylinder Aston Martin you can buy – or at least until a V12 version of the DB12 comes along.
It puts out 835hp and 1,000Nm of torque, which is more power than any other Aston martin you can buy. It’s also a whole 5hp more than you get in a Ferrari 12 Cilindri, and it has 322Nm more torque.
Power is sent to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, so it could prove to be a bit lairy when you put your foot down.
So what does this healthy dose of power mean for performance? Well the new Vanquish will do 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, which is 0.3 of a second slower than the Ferrari 12 Cilindri and half a second slower than a Porsche 911 Turbo.
New Aston Martin Vanquish suspension and chassis
You may be wondering where in Aston Martin’s range this car sits. Well it’s a flagship supercar, and as such it has some pretty sophisticated suspension.
This car was designed to be both a comfortable cruiser and a track-munching supercar. Creating such a car is no easy task, and as such the Vanquish has some very clever suspension.
It has the same Bilstein dampers as the DB12, and they can either firm up for sporty track driving or slacken off for cruising down to the South of France (or your luxury holiday destination of choice) in supreme comfort.
The Vanquish also has thickened anti-roll bars, as well as solid suspension bushes to make it feel more agile through the corners.
New Aston Martin Vanquish interior and infotainment
If you’ve been following the flurry of new Aston Martin reveals lately, you’ll probably be familiar with this interior layout. The new Vanquish’s cabin is very similar to cars like the DB12 and the Vantage.
A 10.25-inch touchscreen sits front and centre, and there’s another 10.25-inch screen behind the steering wheel as well. There’s plenty of leather and solid metal trim around the pleace, and you can customise it in pretty much any way you’d like with different colours and materials. The only limit is the size of your wallet.
New Aston Martin Vanquish: when can I buy one?
The new Aston Martin Vanquish is available to order now, with first deliveries starting in the autumn. It’ll be fairly limited production as well, with only 1,000 being built each year.
That exclusivity will likely come at a price, however Astom Martin hasn’t confirmed how much it’ll cost yet. Don’t expect change out of £400,000 though.
