This is the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, and it’s a heavily-revised version of the brand’s smallest saloon car. This alternative to the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 Saloon has new exterior styling, as well as a completely reworked interior.

It’s available to order from today, with first deliveries starting in March next year. Prices start from £34,915.

New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe design

Considering this is just a facelift for the 2 Series Gran Coupe, it’s actually had a pretty extensive makeover. Most of the styling details come from the new BMW 1 Series and go some way to making the car a bit less gawky than it did before.

2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe front

You have a totally new front end design with slimmer kidney grilles and more swept-back headlights. This M235 model also has a more sporty-looking front bumper with deeper air intakes and sharper creases.

The side profile remains unchanged, although there are some new alloy wheel options. At the rear you can see the tail lights look similar to the ones first seen on the new 1 Series, with a couple of kinks on the bottom, and the bumper has been tweaked as well.

The exterior changes are pretty significant, however they’re nothing compared to the new cabin. It’s been redesigned from the ground-up for 2025, with plenty of details borrowed from the BMW X1 SUV.

It’s also the same dashboard as you’ll find in the new 1 Series, meaning you have a new multi-layered dashboard with some silver trim running down the middle to hide the air vents, and the chequer pattern ambient lighting is a neat touch as well.

Sitting atop the dashboard are a pair of screens – a 10.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.7-inch infotainment system. These are the same as the ones you get in the 1 Series, and around the same size as the displays you get in a Mercedes CLA.

New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe engines and driving

The 2 Series Gran Coupe’s engine lineup has been dramatically simplified for 2025, just as it has in the 1 Series. There are now just two to choose from – a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder in the 220, and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the M235.

The former puts out 170hp and will crack 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds – almost a second slower than the current 220i. The sporty M235 has 300hp and a 0-62mph time of 4.9 seconds, exactly the same as a Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and 0.2 of a second slower than the Audi S3.

Both models are fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and no manual is offered. You also get adaptive M Sport suspension as standard, which can make the car more comfortable or more sporty at the touch of a button.

New BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: when can I buy one?

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is available to order now, and the first cars will hit UK shores in March next year. Prices for the 220 model start from £34,915, a near-£4,000 increase over the outgoing car.

As for the M235, that car will set you back £44,435. This makes it a few hundred pounds more expensive than before, but it still undercuts the Audi S3 by around £3,000.
