It’s a fast, luxurious and high-tech electric car which is becoming something of a bargain on the second-hand market.

When I first reviewed the BMW iX back in 2021, I concluded by saying you should just go right ahead and buy it. I really liked it that much.

It’s hard to pick a favourite thing about this car, but the interior is a really strong contender. Even three years after the car first went on sale it still looks fantastic. The design is really cool, and I especially like the hexagonal steering wheel and sleek vents.

The subtle wood detailing and optional crystal glass make things look premium as well, and the open layout makes it feel really airy and spacious. There’s also plenty of rear seat room and the boot is a decent size

Being such a high-end luxury car, the iX is quite expensive. Prices start from around £70,000, but go for an M Sport version with a bigger battery and more powerful motors and you can easily push north of £100,000 with options. You can save an average of over £8,000 on a new iX through Carwow at the time of writing, but there’s a way you can get one even cheaper.

Go for a used BMW iX and you can pick one up for as little as £35,000. For this price I managed to find a 2022 M Sport model with less than 40,000 miles, 326hp and all-wheel drive. It would’ve cost almost £74,000 when it was new, but now you can buy it for less than half that.

2021 BMW iX rear

This car isn’t perfect. The exterior design is pretty polarising for starters, and it’s pretty annoying that there’s no front boot on a purpose-built electric car. You can’t even open the bonnet.

But these small niggles are easily forgotten when you hit the road, because the iX drives very well. There’s no disguising the fact that this is a heavy car, but it’s such a comfy cruiser over long distances. It handles pretty well too, it’s certainly more fun on twisty roads than an Audi Q8 e-tron.

The BMW iX is a very desirable luxury SUV which you could be proud to park on your driveway, and it’s a real bargain on the used market.
