Car changing is a big deal
This is the new Dacia Bigster – and as the name suggests it’s the largest SUV the brand has ever made. Read on for all you need to know.
- New Dacia Bigster revealed
- Dacia’s largest SUV to date
- Styling stays true to the concept
- Spacious interior with clever features
- New hybrid and 4X4 versions available
- Likely to cost less than £30,000
After years of anticipation, the new Dacia Bigster is finally here. It’s a budget-friendly alternative to family SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson. It’s certainly gone over well with Carwow readers – this news story has pulled in more views than any other on the Carwow website this year, leading it to be named 2025’s Most Anticipated New Car in the latest Carwow Car of the Year Awards.
Prices haven’t been finalised just yet, however it’ll cost less than £30,000 when it goes on sale in 2025. That makes it one of the cheapest SUVs in this class.
New Dacia Bigster design
It’s been a couple of years now since the Dacia Bigster Concept first appeared on our screens, and since then the new Duster has already nicked most of that car’s styling details. It comes as no surprise then that the production version of the Bigster looks a lot like a bigger Duster.
The family resemblance is especially apparent up front – where the two cars share a very similar upright nose and sleek headlights. The Bigster does look a bit more rugged though thanks to a deeper front bumper, something which has been carried over from the concept almost unchanged.
The side profile is also pretty much identical to the concept’s, with a square shape and chunky cladding helping add to the rufty-tufty vibe. The way the rear door handles are hidden in the door trim is also a feature carried over from the Duster.
Another design cue which is becoming common across the Dacia range is the triangular rear lights – something we first saw on the Bigster concept and has since been adopted by the Duster. That rear spoiler also looks like a copy-paste job from the Bigster’s smaller sibling.
New Dacia Bigster interior and practicality
Moving inside, the new Dacia Bigster is all about maximising practicality – hence the name. It offers a whopping 667 litres of boot space, 15 litres more than the Volkswagen Tiguan and almost 80 litres more than a Kia Sportage has to offer.
And the massive boot is only the beginning. The new Bigster comes with Dacia’s ingenious YouClip system – which comprises multiple mounting points throughout the car for a range of accessories.
These include a tablet holder for rear passenger, coat hangers, storage pouches, a torch, cup holders and many more. These are available to buy separately from your local Dacia dealer.
The Bigster also promises generous rear head and legroom, although we’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the car to find out how it stacks up against alternatives.
If you plan on taking your Bigster on adventures which take you off the beaten track, the Extreme model comes with easy-clean rubber mats and seat upholstery to make it easier to wipe everything down afterwards.
As for tech, all models come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen as standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – unlike the Duster which just has a phone mount on basic models. You also get a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display on entry-level cars, rising to 10.0-inches on mid-spec cars and up.
New Dacia Bigster engines and driving
There are three engines on offer in the new Dacia Bigster, including an all-new hybrid system making its debut in this SUV.
It combines a four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors – a 50hp unit which can directly drive the wheels and a smaller one hidden in the gearbox. It produces a combined 155hp, driving the front wheels via an automatic gearbox.
This hybrid can also waft around at low speeds in electric-only mode to save you some precious petrol. Dacia claims that the Bigster can stay in EV mode 80% of the time when you’re driving in town.
The entry-level engine is a 140hp 1.2-litre petrol paired to a six-speed manual gearbox, or there’s a 130hp option with all-wheel drive. This is also linked to a manual transmission, and it’s one of the few family SUVs to offer this combination for light off-road duties.
New Dacia Duster price and specs
Official prices for the new Bigster haven’t been confirmed yet, however it’ll cost less than £30,000.
This would also make it £4,000 cheaper than a Volkswagen Tiguan, and it could also come out at around the same as the budget-friendly Citroen C5 Aircross. Pretty impressive for a car which is as well-equipped as this.
All Bigsters will come with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a power tailgate, keyless entry and a raft of safety systems. You’ll also be able to get luxuries like a panoramic glass roof, adaptive cruise control and dual-zone air conditioning on higher-spec models.
If you’re the outdoorsy type, you can have modular roof bars which can be fitted in multiple configurations depending on what you want to mount, as well as a sleep pack which converts the back of your Bigster into a double bed. A tent is also available to fit to the rear of the car, Tesla Cybertruck-style.
