ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENTS
OUR BUSINESS
We commit to measuring our carbon footprint, reducing our environmental impact, and to reaching Net Zero by 2040.
Our business affects the environment in its daily operations and also via our entire value chain, and we recognise that there are other impacts in addition to greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions that we need to monitor and reduce.
We commit to:
- Measure our carbon footprint on an annual basis using an internationally-recognised methodology and publish our findings on our website
- Ensure a trusted third party validates our annual GHG emissions calculations
- Ensure all carbon reduction targets align with science-based methods
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions within our operational control by 42% by 2030 from the base year, and measure and reduce scope 3 emissions
- Invest annually in quality removal and avoidance credits that offset our Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and aim to offset an increasing proportion of Scope 3 emissions
- Aim to reach Net Zero by 2040, by reducing absolute Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions by 90% from the base year, and removing all residual emissions using certified long-term carbon removals
- Advocate for the adoption of carbon reduction best practices throughout the company, for example, by promoting energy efficiency and awareness amongst our employees (including when working from home), encouraging water conservation and reduction, and seeking specialist advice where needed to inform our ESG strategy
- Work with our office landlords on criteria such as energy-efficient lighting and appliances, water-efficient fixtures and recycling programs
- Adopt an e-waste policy in all office locations and seek to extend the life of company devices where possible, for example, through refurbishment or donation
- Seek to incorporate environmental best practice within an increasing range of company procedures and policies
- Cultivate understanding and knowledge sharing of the causes of climate change across the company; help educate employees and our other stakeholders
OUR CUSTOMERS
We commit to helping all our customers discover, select, and purchase a more sustainable vehicle.
Purchasing a new car can be a complex and overwhelming experience for many, and the introduction of new tech and fuel types has made it even more difficult.
Our combination of world-leading content, platform-based services, and technology means we can help customers in all our markets research and purchase the most suitable vehicle for them.
We want to go further than this. We want to inspire and inform millions of consumers and thousands of partners to make more environmentally sustainable choices when it comes to car ownership.
We commit to:
- Help all our customers discover, select, and purchase a more sustainable vehicle by improving what and how we present data so that our customers can make more informed decisions, for example, by increasing the amount and quality of ESG-related content available on our platform. Also, we want to help them by ensuring ESG-related content is better surfaced, for example by building better products that aid car comparison
- Build trust through truthful, clear, and evidence-based communications about our environmental impacts and carbon reduction efforts
- Practise responsible marketing
- Actively foster internal and external innovation that advances a Net-Zero future
OUR COMMUNITIES
We commit to building partnerships and coalitions to push for decarbonisation.
Given the urgency of the climate crisis, we do not want to rely solely on government interventions to bring about industry change. We must leverage our influential, consumer-focused voice and engage both internal and external stakeholders to drive sustainable innovation, positive social change, and carbon reduction.
We commit to:
- Foster a unified voice that calls loudly for collective action to decarbonise, encouraging our partners and suppliers to commit to science-based targets aligned to achieving Net-Zero by 2050
- Build alliances to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles
- Work with partners to better represent their ESG credentials on our platform so that our customers can make more informed decisions
- Encourage our partners to build responsible, resilient, and sustainable supply chains
- Share ESG best practices and knowhow across our communities
As we advance our sustainability efforts, we also aim to:
- Set out our expectations for our partners and suppliers to do the same, including: selecting, procuring, using, and disposing of materials, products, and services in line with this policy’s ethos; and identifying and assessing material environmental impacts within their own supply chains, both direct and indirect, including climate change impacts
