Ford electric cars Discover the electric Ford range and compare new and leasing deals

The lineup of electric Ford cars has expanded a lot in the last year, with the arrival of the Explorer and the Capri to join the Mustang Mach-E, and the electric Puma will arrive soon. Ford’s electric cars tend to prioritise driver enjoyment more than some others, but the styling and interiors aren’t as good as rivals.

Ford electric range: current models

Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer borrows the battery and chassis from the Volkswagen ID.4, but it gets a Ford spin with slightly more driver involvement. The sliding touchscreen is a neat touch, but doesn’t make up for the slightly small boot. Range on one charge is very good, though.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a sometimes controversial car (putting the legendary Mustang badge on a battery SUV?) but it’s better than the reputation would have it. There’s good range on offer with the bigger battery, and sharp handling too. It fidgets a bit over bumps, which is annoying, and the price is too chunky.

Ford Capri

Another controversial electric Ford. Well, controversial for those who remember and revere the original Capri anyway. For the rest of us it’s just a slightly odd-looking, but good-to-drive electric SUV-coupe, with excellent range on one charge. Why bother getting cross about that, just because it’s not a seventies coupe anymore?

Ford electric FAQs

Yes, in fact Ford has three fully electric cars — the Mustang Mach-E, the Explorer, and the Capri —  with an electric version of the compact Ford Puma SUV on the way.
Yes, in general. With the Explorer and Capri it’s a bit soon to tell, but the Mustang Mach-E has proven to be a very reliable car, and although Ford finished poorly in the 2024 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey (30th out of 32 brands) a relatively low 20% of owners reported faults with their cars.
The Ford Explorer costs just slightly less than £40,000 making it the cheapest of Ford’s three all-electric SUVs (for now) and cheaper too than the basic version of the Volkswagen ID.4 with the same long-range 77kWh battery.
