Ford small car range: current models

Ford’s small car range has shrunk (no pun intended) a bit recently, but models like the Focus still have strong performance and family-friendly practicality.

Ford Focus

The Focus has been a firm family favourite since the first version went on sale in 1998. The latest Focus has a simple model lineup — you just pick from one 1.0-litre petrol engine with either 100hp, 125hp, or 155hp. Any of those engines are smooth and efficient, and the Focus is still by far the best family car to drive. Its weak point is a cabin that looks too cheap.

Ford Focus ST

With a 280hp turbocharged petrol engine, shared with the Ford Mustang coupe, the Focus ST has some serious performance on offer, and has the sharp handling and steering to back it up. The downsides are a firm ride, a cheap-looking cabin, and expensive insurance and running costs.

Ford Fiesta

For almost endless years, the Fiesta was the UK’s best-selling car and it’s not hard to see why — it’s always been affordable, mechanically tough, spacious, easy to drive, and more fun than most of the competition.

Ford small cars FAQs

Ford’s smallest current car, now that the Fiesta is no longer on sale, is the Puma compact SUV.
The Ford Puma is smaller than the Ford Focus, and previous models smaller than a Focus include the Fiesta, the Ka, the Ka+, the Fusion, and the EcoSport
Yes, the original Ka was first introduced in 1997 as Ford’s most affordable and smallest car, being shorter and narrower than a Fiesta. The subsequent second-generation Ka, and the later Ka+ were both smaller than the comparable Fiesta.
