The new Hyundai Inster is an awesome little electric car with a lot going for it – here are five cool things about this funky little hatchback.

This is the new Hyundai Inster – a cute small electric car which has a cavernous interior and an attractive price tag. It serves as an alternative to the Citroen e-C3 and Renault 5, and it has a lot to offer. Here are five cool things about the Hyundai Inster.

1. Stand-out styling

The Hyundai Inster is a hatchback which is cleverly disguised as an SUV. It’s got quirky, angular styling that gives it plenty of attitude – square edges, chunky headlights, and those ‘Pixel’ LED running lights straight from the Hyundai Ioniq 5. It’s around the same size as the Citroen e-C3, but the chunky proportions and raised ride height give it the appearance of something much larger.

2. Tech that doesn’t cost you the earth, or your sanity

The interior of the Inster proves that you don’t need to spend big to get big screens. For starters, you get twin 10.3-inch digital displays as standard, but Hyundai has resisted the urge to throw in a sea of fiddly touch controls and instead kept physical buttons for essential stuff like air conditioning. It’s a simple, user-friendly approach that means you won’t be pulling your hair out trying to figure out how to turn on the heating when it’s freezing outside.

3. TARDIS-like interior space

Let’s talk comfort, because the Inster knows how to spoil its passengers. The rear seats slide back and forth, and if you slide them all the way back, you’ll find yourself with enough legroom to rival some much larger SUVs. Not only can those seats slide, but they also recline. So, if you’re into napping on the move, you can kick back like you’re at a spa, right in the back of this electric hatchback. Want even more comfort? Fold the front seats flat, and you’ve got a perfect set-up for ‘chabak’—a South Korean craze involving in-car camping.

4. Boot space that punches above its weight

Sure, it’s a compact car, but the Inster’s boot is surprisingly spacious, thanks to the sliding rear seats. Push those all the way forward, and you get a generous 351 litres of boot space. That’s almost 50 litres more than you get in a Dacia Spring, making it a solid choice if you’re hauling groceries or taking the family on a weekend getaway. Even better, when you fold the rear seats down, you get a completely flat load area—perfect for fitting in the camping gear, or maybe just hauling those flat-pack furniture boxes from IKEA. It’s practical and proves that size isn’t everything.

5. Affordable, yet packed with features

One of the best things about the Inster? It’s really affordable for what it offers. Prices start at just over £22,000, however you can get one for £19,800 through Carwow at the time of writing. That makes it around the same price as a Citroen e-C3, and it comes with adaptive cruise control, climate control, and a reversing camera as standard. The step-up 02 model is even more decked out, with 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, heated seats, and ambient lighting. It’s also the only model which gets the clever sliding seats, and it starts from £26,800. Buy one through Carwow though and you can get an 02 for £24,400 at the time of writing.
