- Hyundai Elantra N revealed
- Sporty exterior design
- N-specific infotainment system
- 280hp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine
- N-Grin Shift tech adds 10hp in short bursts
- 0-62mph in 5.3-seconds
- UK market availability unconfirmed
The Hyundai Elantra N saloon is the latest addition to Hyundai’s N-Line performance models, which already includes the i20 N and i30 N hatchback and fastback models and the new Kona N.
This is the first fully-fledged N-spec Elantra and comes packed with performance upgrades and visual modifications. The Elantra N is an alternative to such sporty cars as the Honda Civic Type R and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
New Hyundai Elantra N design
The new Hyundai Elantra N’s bodywork looks far more aggressive than on the standard models. It comes fitted with a rear diffuser, side skirts and spoiler, all designed to enhance the aerodynamic performance.
You also get a load of red trims and a set of 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres (a first for an N vehicle.)
New Hyundai Elantra N interior
The new N model’s interior retains the basic layout of the standard Hyundai Elantra – this means a set of digital displays and a clean uncluttered design. It also adds a number of performance-oriented features to the infotainment system such as a lap timer and oil, boost and coolant temp readouts.
New Hyundai Elantra N engines and driving
The Hyundai Elantra N comes with the same 280hp 2.0-litre turbocharged engine as you get in the i30 N hot hatch. It also gets front-wheel drive and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission like that car, along with Hyundai’s ‘N Grin Shift’ feature that further boosts power by 10hp for up to 10 seconds.
An electronic limited-slip differential and launch control feature help the Elantra N do 0-60mph sprint in just 5.3-seconds.
New Hyundai Elantra N price and release date
The Hyundai Elantra N has just had its digital world premiere and will go on sale by the end of the year in various markets. Hyundai hasn’t confirmed whether the Elantra N will go on sale in Europe and the UK yet, but if it does it’ll likely cost more than today’s £34,400 Hyundai i30 N Fastback.
