New Kia EV6 revealed: flagship electric car gets a mid-life revamp
September 02, 2024 by Jamie Edkins
Car changing is a big deal
This is the updated Kia EV6. We first saw it when it was revealed for the Korean market, but it’s now available in the UK.
- New Kia EV6 on sale now
- Minor styling upgrades for flagship EV
- Larger battery with improved range
- Power outputs remain the same
- Prices start from £45,575
This is the new Kia EV6, and it’s been given a minor revamp to keep it looking fresh against alternatives like the Skoda Enyaq and Ford Mustang Mach-E.
Not only does it get some visual upgrades, it’ll also go further on a charge than before. Order books are open now, with prices starting from £45,575
New Kia EV6 design
It’s hard to believe that the Kia EV6 has been around for three years already, because it’s still one of the most futuristic-looking electric SUVs on the market. This hasn’t stopped Kia from tweaking it though.
The main change up front is the new headlights. They’re quite similar to the ones you’ll find on the Kia EV5 concept, and as such they’re a lot more angular than before. A tweaked lower bumper also features a slightly different vent design.
This, combined with a range of new alloy wheel designs, is about the full extent of the changes. The swoopy side profile is identical to before, as is the massive rear light bar and sporty roof spoiler.
New Kia EV6 batteries and range
Underneath that stylish bodywork you’ll find a slightly bigger battery than before, with the capacity going from 77kWh to 84kWh. This, as you’d expect, results in improved driving range.
The outgoing EV6 could manage up to 328 miles on a full charge, whereas this new one has up to 361 miles of range. That’s 11 miles less than a Ford Mustang Mach-E can do, and it’s 12 miles less than the mechanically similar Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Kia does have the Skoda Enyaq beaten by a few miles though.
Charging at a 350kW fast charger takes just 18 minutes to go from 10-80%, while a home charge at 11kW will take 7 hours and 35 minutes.
As for performance, the new EV6 will launch with two power options. There’s a rear-wheel drive model with 225hp, or a dual-motor all-wheel drive version with 320hp. This is exactly the same as the current lineup, and the 577hp EV6 GT will be updated in early 2025.
New Kia EV6 price and specs
The new Kia EV6 is available to order now, with first deliveries starting in the coming weeks.
Kia has retained the old car’s three trim levels, meaning you can choose between Air, GT-Line or GT-Line S models. Entry-level Air cars start from £45,575, which is just a few hundred pounds more expensive than the outgoing model.
Standard equipment is generous across the range. All cars come with LED lights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, two 12.3-inch screens and front and rear parking sensors. GT-line cars get some sporty styling upgrades, both inside and out, as well as electric adjustment for the front seats while GT-Line S models gain features like ventilated seats and a panoramic glass roof.
