This is the, and take a deep breath here, Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s. We’ll refrain from yelling that at you from here on out, but as the name suggests it’s essentially a modern G Wagon with retro styling.
Mechanically it’s exactly the same as the standard G Wagon; this limited edition model is available with either 3.0-litre petrol or diesel engines. You can order yours now, although you’ll need to get a wriggle on if you want one because just 460 will be sold worldwide.
New Mercedes G Wagon Edition Stronger Than The 1980s design
You may be thinking that the Mercedes G-Wagon already looks retro enough – it’s barely changed in terms of design for the last 45 or so years after all. Well this 1980s throwback looks even more utilitarian than the current car.

It has a completely blacked-out front end, as well as amber indicators on top of the wings. There’s more black plastic cladding around the lower half of the car, and you get 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels with chunky tyres – pretty small by G-Wagon standards.

At the rear you have a ladder to access the optional roof rack, as well as a spare tyre cover with the classic Mercedes logo on it. The Mercedes-Benz script lower down is also in the old 1980s font.

Finishing off the old-school look are the new colour schemes. You can either have “Agave Green” or “Colorado Beige”. Neither are metallic, and both look wonderfully old-school.
New Mercedes G Wagon Edition Stronger Than The 1980s interior
It’s not just the exterior which has been given a makeover – this ‘80s-inspired G Wagon has also been given some interior tweaks to help it stand out.

The biggest change is the seats, which have cool grey plaid inserts to pay homage to the classic G-Class. The massive grab handle also has “Stronger than the 1980s” stamped on it, along with “1 of 460” on the centre console to remind you how exclusive your car is.

Beyond this, you have all the usual mod cons you’d expect in a new Mercedes. There’s a Nappa leather steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof and a premium Bermester surround sound system to keep you entertained.
Sounds great! When can I buy one?
Right now. The Mercedes G Wagon Edition Stronger than the 1980s is available to order, and it costs from £152,815. That makes it around £10,000 more than the standard car, which isn’t too bad for a one of 460 limited edition.
