MG hybrids: current models

The MG hybrid lineup consists of the compact MG3 hatchback, the mid-sized ZS SUV and the larger, more luxurious HS SUV.

MG3

The MG3 is a sharply-priced rival to the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, and it looks slightly more attractive on the outside than the Japanese car. The interior is a bit cheap, but the 194hp hybrid engine has plenty of power while still getting very good fuel economy.

MG ZS

Like the smaller MG3 hatch, the ZS gets a new 1.5-litre hybrid petrol engine with 196hp and a temptingly low price. There’s plenty of room inside, but the touchscreen is pretty awful, and the ZS is no fun to drive at all.

MG HS

The new MG HS does a great job of offering you some seriously impressive plug-in hybrid performance — 75 miles on one charge of the battery! — with pleasing styling. The touchscreen’s too fiddly, but cabin quality is okay and composed to drive.

MG hybrid cars FAQs

Yes, MG makes hybrid cars. The MG3 hatchback and ZS SUV use the same 1.5-litre hybrid petrol engine, while the larger, more luxurious ZS gets a plug-in hybrid system with a range of 75 miles on one charge of its battery.
Actually, the MG HS is a plug-in hybrid (there is a non-hybrid petrol version too), which matches a 1.5-litre petrol engine to a 154kW electric motor and a big 24.7kWh battery pack. Charge up that battery and MG claims an electric range of 75 miles before you’ll need to wake the petrol engine up.
Yes, it does. In fact, the new ZS is only available as a hybrid for the moment. It uses the same basic 1.5-litre hybrid engine as the smaller MG3 hatch, with 196hp.
