MINI automatic cars Discover the MINI automatic range and compare new, used and leasing deals

Mini is another brand which has pivoted to exclusively offering cars with automatic gearboxes. While it’s well-known for building small, fun-to-drive cars, even its petrol models now have automatics - while the rest of its model lineup is fully electric and therefore act exactly like an automatic too, and can be driven on an automatic-only licence.

Mini automatic car range

All of Mini’s current cars are either petrol-powered with automatic gearboxes, or fully electric.

MINI Cooper

The Mini Cooper petrol is an evolution of the previous-generation car, but doesn’t come with the manual gearboxes that were offered. All models, whether the Cooper C or the Cooper S, come instead with an eight-speed automatic.

MINI Cooper Electric

The Cooper Electric doesn’t have a gearbox as such, but like all electric cars it operates just like an automatic, with a D-N-R-P drive selector and two pedals. It makes this an ideal car for city driving.

MINI 5-Door Hatch

The five-door Mini is a stretched version of the Cooper hatch. That means it gets the same eight-speed automatic but more room and easier access to the back makes it a better bet for families.

MINI Aceman

Mini’s newest car, the Aceman is a small electric SUV based on the Cooper Electric. As a full EV, it’s just like an automatic car to drive.

MINI Countryman

The Countryman really stretches the definition of ‘Mini’ and is in fact a full-sized family SUV. It gets 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre engines and they’re both mated to a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox.

MINI Countryman JCW

The Countryman JCW is the hottest version of the Countryman and comes with a more powerful 2.0-litre engine and unique JCW styling. But it still gets the same smooth eight-speed automatic.

MINI Countryman Electric

The Countryman Electric is virtually identical to the regular Countryman - if you didn’t know what you were looking for, you probably couldn’t tell the difference. As an electric car, it operates just like a regular automatic.

Mini small cars FAQs
