As a result of a supplier to the Volkswagen Group being discovered as non-compliant to anti-forced labour laws, Lamborghini, Audi, Porsche and Bentley cars have been impounded at American ports until a particular part is changed.

  • VW Group supplier from China found to be non-compliant with anti-forced labour laws
  • Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley cars impounded at American ports until a part is replaced
  • Deliveries of these vehicles will be delayed, possibly until the end of March
  • No reply from Volkswagen Group to if any cars destined for the UK have the same part

Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley cars have been held at American ports after the Volkswagen Group informed authorities that it has discovered these vehicles are fitted with a part from a sub-supplier in China that does not comply with anti-forced labour laws. Apparently, no VW-branded vehicles are involved.

According to a report in the Financial Times, there are thousands” of these cars impounded. This means deliveries of these cars to dealers and customers in North America will be delayed until the end of March while the offending part is replaced.

We are working to rectify a delay in delivering certain Volkswagen Group vehicles from ports to dealers due to a customs issue,” said Volkswagen Group in an official statement. “This relates to a small electronic component – part of a larger control unit – which is in the process of being replaced as parts arrive. Deliveries continue, however some unavoidable delays may occur, for which we apologise. We are contacting each customer to keep them informed.”

“As soon as we received information of allegations regarding one of our sub-suppliers, we have been investigating the matter,” the company continued. “We will clarify the facts and then take appropriate steps. These may also include the termination of a supplier relationship if our investigations confirm serious violations.

Carwow has asked Volkswagen Group to confirm if any UK cars are affected but it is yet to respond.
