Car changing is a big deal
The coach-built electric hypercar is one of one, and includes a bespoke tailored luggage set and built-in cigar humidor… oh, and 1,900hp
- Coachbuilt variant of Pininfarina Battista created for private client
- Features targa roof, unique bodywork and interior
- Hand-made in Italy
- Still uses 1,900hp electric powertrain
- Capable of 0-62mph in less than 2 seconds
- Likely to cost far more than regular car’s £3.2m price tag
Coachbuilding may have gone somewhat out of fashion when cars stopped being supplied as separate chassis – but it’s still a business that’s alive and well, as proved by bespoke styling house and hypercar manufacturer Pininfarina.
It’s created a unique, one-off coachbuilt version of its Battista hypercar for a private client. Called the Battista Targamerica, it’s a hand-made electric hypercar with an open-topped body and meticulous re-engineering to fit its buyer’s ‘exacting’ needs. Described as ‘a one-off design and technical statement’, it’ll get its public debut during Monterey Car Week at Pebble Beach in California. It follows on from the Pininfarina B95, an open-topped speedster also based on the Battista and limited to just ten examples worldwide.
Pininfarina Battista Targamerica: design
The Battista Targamerica is, unsurprisingly, quite similar to the regular Pininfarina Battista. That’s not a bad thing – the Battista took the Design award at the famous Corcorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este back in 2021, and has a dramatic look befitting of its hypercar performance.
The biggest change is of course the open roof, which takes the form of a ‘targa’ with a lift-out central section in between a fixed windscreen and a hump behind the seats. The Battista’s flashy butterfly doors, low nose and full-width front lightbar remain.
It’s painted in a ‘pure’ silver named Argento Liquido Gloss, with Iconica Blu Gloss as the accent colour along the sides of the body. The underside of the rear wing also gets pinstripes in the same blue, hand-painted of course.
Ceramic-polished five-spoke alloys with anodised black centre caps and one-off door plates complete the exterior makeover.
Pininfarina Battista Targamerica: interior
Inside, the client has been allowed to express themselves. There’s tan leather upholstery with a black steering wheel and dashboard, while bespoke headrests feature design details specific to the new owner.
They’ve specified a bespoke tailored luggage set to fit the Battista’s boot, and in between the two seats they’ve gone rogue and added in a cigar humidor. Capable of holding up to three cigars, the aluminium and glass humidor is backlit and even lights up in green, blue, orange, red or yellow depending on which driving mode is selected.
Can I buy a Pininfarina Battista Targamerica?
Money talks, and you’ll need a lot of it for one of these. The Targamerica’s bespoke nature means Pininfarina is unlikely to build another – clients who’ve spent millions for exclusivity don’t usually like it when other people have the same things as they do.
However, if you’ve deep pockets and a good idea, Pininfarina will gladly build a bespoke ‘curated’ vehicle just for you. The price of the Targamerica hasn’t been revealed publicly, but it’s likely far higher than the £3.2m you’d pay for a ‘normal’ Pininfarina Battista.
