Tesla’s latest batch of over-the-air updates have been announced, bringing some useful improvements – and some silly additions – to owners of Tesla models.
The update consists of several handy features including improved navigation that should help owners manage their battery charge, and should roll out to owners starting next week.
Here’s a list of all the promised features for the Tesla 2024 Holiday Update…
Apple Watch app
Tesla owners will be able to use their Apple Watch as their car key, as well as their phones. The Tesla app for Apple Watch also lets you view your battery charge, open the frunk or turn on the climate control.
Save camera clips to phone
Using the Tesla app on your phone, you’ll be able to view clips from the car’s built-in dashcam and ‘Sentry mode’, as well as save them directly to your phone for editing or sharing. Sentry mode will also send a notification to your phone if your door handle is pulled.
Autoshift on Model 3
The latest Model 3 already does away with the drive selector stalk, instead using a slider on the touchscreen. However, now the car will now be able to predict for you if you want Drive or Reverse.
Navigation software improvements
You can choose what percentage you’d like your battery to be when you arrive at your destination, and the Tesla navigation software will plan your stops accordingly. Useful if you’re going somewhere without much charging infrastructure and you want to make sure you have enough juice to get home.
You can now search for destinations alongside your route, and Tesla’s navigation will calculate the estimated detour time. The app will also show you the weather at your destination.
Traffic data has also been expanded out to vehicles that don’t have the premium connectivity package, too, with navigation also now able to route around road closures.
Rear cross-traffic alert
A system which has been available for a while on alternatives now hits Tesla – when reversing, the vehicle will alert you if it detects a vehicle or pedestrian crossing behind you. The Cybertruck’s rear camera also gets an improvement, and you’re able to pinch and zoom the image. And music volume will now automatically lower when you’re reversing.
Putting the ‘fun’ in ‘functionality’
A few more frivolous improvements will also be rolled out. Rear-seat passengers in the Cybertruck can now play games through the centre screen – and a new game called ‘Boomerang Fu’ has been added. Specially for Christmas, the avatar within the instrument cluster can be turned into a Cybertruck-inspired sleigh, complete with one of Tesla’s Optimus robots at the reins.
Tesla’s signature ‘Light Show’ mode, where the car uses its various combinations of LEDs and external speakers to put on a display, can now be scheduled remotely. And of course, the most important feature – Tesla’s ‘Whoopee Cushion’ mode can now play fart sounds as soon as it detects somebody sitting down. Groundbreaking.
Would any of these features make you buy a Tesla?
