Mat’s deal of the day: This hatchback is a lot like a Golf but £5,000 cheaper with Carwow discounts*

Car changing is a big deal
This often overlooked family hatchback offers great value for money, especially after Carwow discounts.
If you’re in the market for a practical family hatchback, the default choice for many is the Volkswagen Golf. There’s another model which you may have overlooked though, one which is the same as the Golf under the skin but also £5,000 cheaper after Carwow discounts.
We’re talking about the Seat Leon, a sporty-looking Golf spin-off from the Spanish brand which offers the same engines and tech as a Golf.
Seat Leon deals: save an average of almost £5,000 through Carwow*
The Seat Leon starts from £24,805, unless you buy through Carwow in which case you could grab one from just over £20,300. That makes it nearly £5,000 cheaper than a Volkswagen Golf
The biggest savings can be had on the FR Sport plug-in hybrid, with discounts of up to £5,600 bringing the price of that car down to £32,937. The equivalent Golf GTE would set you back almost £38,000 after Carwow savings.
Seat Leon specs and features
So what do you get for your money? The basic model of the Leon comes with an 8.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear parking sensors and 16-inch alloy wheels as standard.
The FR version is the sweet spot of the range though, because that car gets sportier styling with deeper bumpers, a 10.0-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display and a wireless charging pad for your phone. This version starts from £23,600 through Carwow at the time of writing.
The Leon has a spacious interior and it’s more fun to drive than the Golf, although it’s not quite as comfortable as that car over bumps. The interior isn’t quite as plush either, with a few more scratchy plastics to be found. This is easily forgiven though when it’s this much cheaper than a Golf.
Seat Leon alternatives
Don’t fancy a Seat Leon? Here are our top three alternatives:
Volkswagen Golf – More comfortable with a posher interior, but you’ll have to pay extra for the added luxury.
Honda Civic: Cracking to drive and properly comfortable, but it is quite expensive.
Vauxhall Astra: A fabulous-looking family hatchback with a big boot and loads of kit, but the rear seats are a bit tight.
*Prices correct at the time of writing. Savings are made up of the maximum dealer discount off RRP – subject to dealership, location and trim.
