It’ll be the first electric-only model from this luxury brand, and a full reveal is coming next year.

  • Stylish SUV to go electric-only
  • Camouflaged prototypes spotted testing
  • Similar design to the current car
  • Could offer 350kW rapid charging
  • On sale in 2026

This is the new Range Rover Velar EV, and the sleek coupe-SUV will be the first model from the brand which is designed as an electric car from the ground-up.

It’ll serve as an alternative to cars like the Porsche Macan EV and the BMW iX. A full reveal is expected in 2026 following new electric versions of both the full-size Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport.

New Range Rover Velar design

The current Range Rover Velar is a fantastic-looking SUV with a swoopy roofline and a muscular stance, and it still looks modern eight years after it first debuted. No pressure for the new one then.

From these spy shots it looks as though Rang Rover will keep the basic recipe intact. It’s pretty well-camouflaged at the moment, but you can still see the sleek coupe-esque roofline and curvy rear end. The taillights look like they have a similar shape to the Range Rover Sport as well.

New Range Rover Velar EV rear

At the front you have an upright bumper and what appear to be swept-back headlights, and it looks as though it’ll have a pretty imposing grille. The fact there’s a mesh cutout in the camouflage suggests that this will be functional as well.

There is very little information about what’s powering the new Velar, other than the fact it’ll be all-electric.

New Range Rover Velar EV side

It also won’t share parts with the forthcoming Range Rover EV, because that car is based on the petrol version under the skin. The new Velar is Range Rover’s first model designed as an EV from the ground-up using an all-new collection of parts.

It would be logical to assume this car would be similar under the skin to the new Jaguar Type 00, the two brands live under the same roof after all. Not so fast though, because Jaguar is developing a completely separate platform for that car to sit on, and like a spoiled younger sibling it’s not keen on sharing its toys.

So what does all this mean for the Velar EV? Well an 800-volt electrical system is on the cards which would allow for ultra-rapid charging at around 350kW, which in most cars can add around 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes, but beyond this it’s a bit of a mystery. If it’s to compete with the Porsche Macan EV then expect to see more than 350 miles of range.

When can I buy the new Range Rover Velar EV?

This new electric Range Rover Velar is expected to go on sale in 2026 after the launch of the Range Rover EV and an electric version of the Range Rover Sport. It’s too early to say how much this car will cost just yet, but expect a hefty increase over the current car’s £55,000 price tag.
