Ford owners owe almost £6.5m in parking fines

New data from National Scrap Car reveals that Ford cars received the most Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in 2024.
Nobody wants to come back to their car to find a parking ticket on the windscreen, and data from National Scrap Car has revealed the brands most likely to be slapped with a fine.
Data gathered from local councils found that authorities issued a combined total average of 2,616,236 Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) in 2024.
The top three car brands with the most parking fines in 2024 were Ford with 319,887 fines, followed by Volkswagen with 234,811 and BMW with 204,971.
It’s no surprise that these brands topped the list, because they are among the most popular in the UK. The Ford Puma was the country’s best selling car in 2024.
Between the three manufacturers, the worst offending city was Manchester – where the local authority issued a total of 464,880 PCNs.
These three brands also racked up the most unpaid parking fines, totalling £15,077,680 in fines between them. Ford, in particular, ran up the most fines, with an eyewatering £6,453,280 still outstanding.
Although Manchester City Council issued the most fines to these brands, they seem to be great at collecting them and was not the council to have the highest amount of unpaid fines.
Ford drivers owe the highest amount of unpaid PCNs to Waltham Forest Borough Council (80,666), while Volkswagen (53,930) and BMW (53,875) drivers have the most outstanding fines with Barking and Dagenham.
Nothing’s more anxiety-inducing than finding a parking ticket slipped under your windscreen wiper, so it’s important to be mindful when you park up. Make sure to check for signs showing parking restrictions, and make sure you’re parked within marked bays.
