Meet Electra, a multilingual chatbot by E.ON, designed to simplify the EV charging experience and eliminate language barriers for drivers travelling abroad.

Charging up your EV while abroad can be a daunting task, especially when faced with instructions in unfamiliar languages. To address this, energy company E.ON has created Electra, a multilingual chatbot designed to simplify the EV charging process for drivers and remove language barriers.

Integrated into E.ON’s Drive Comfort app, Electra offers drivers AI-driven assistance and access to real-time human support when needed. The tool is currently available in the UK and Germany, but the service is set to expand to Italy and Denmark.

Julian Lennertz, chief commercial officer at E.ON Next, said: “EVs are an important part of the energy transition, and as adoption grows, drivers need a charging infrastructure that supports their journeys – whether for daily commutes or cross-border travel.

“Electra is the latest example of how E.ON is working to be at the forefront of the energy transition. Language barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of a smooth, stress-free charging experience, making electric mobility smarter, simpler, and more inclusive for all.”

Electra is more than just a chatbot, according to E.ON. It acts as a digital assistant that helps guide EV drivers through the charging process. Key features include:

  • Locating the nearest charging stations and providing step-by-step navigation.
  • Supporting multiple languages, allowing drivers to receive instructions in their preferred language, along with local pricing information.
  • Offering AI-powered responses based on large language models (LLM) that go beyond basic FAQs to provide context-aware support.
  • Seamlessly handing over to live agents when additional customer support is needed.

Electra was developed in collaboration with Berlin-based software company Elvah and powered by Cognigy AI. The launch of this AI assistant is an important development in E.ON’s efforts to advance e-mobility.

The assistant is also designed to improve and adapt over time, with plans for broader availability in new markets in 2025.
