Do you want a spacious plug-in hybrid? Then say hello to this family-friendly SUV.
Having a plug-in hybrid comes with its perks – when the battery of a PHEV runs out, its combustion engine provides additional range using petrol fuel until you can recharge. And if you’re looking for one that has a bit more space, then this car comes in comfortably cheaper than many much smaller hatchbacks and SUVs.
The BYD Seal U boasts plenty of room inside. Space in the front and rear seats is excellent, with space for a six-foot passenger to stretch out behind a driver of a similar size. The boot isn’t quite so impressive though, at 425 litres in capacity – most alternatives offer more room.

The BYD Seal U usually starts from £33,205, but through Carwow you can get it for £31,255. This makes it over £2,000 cheaper than a Volkswagen Tiguan.
The biggest savings can be found on the Design model, with £2,352 off at the time of writing. With this, you get 19-inch bi-colour alloy wheels, power-assisted steering, and a 1.5-litre hybrid engine.
If you prioritise space over a pleasant drive, then this SUV could be one for you. It runs on its electric motors most of the time – this makes it fantastic for driving around town. But, although its hybrid powertrain is excellent, the rest of the driving experience is quite poor – the car’s suspension is so soft that it wallows over bumps and the steering is light.
