Find out why this hybrid SUV should be added to your shopping list.

One of the UK’s most popular cars has got an economical hybrid version – and could very well be one to add to your bookmarks.

Indeed, Nissan Qashqai e-Power is the hybrid-engined version of the regular Qashqai, which is a comfortable and refined family car. From the outside there’s little to differentiate the e-Power from regular versions of the Qashqai, aside from some subtle badging.

Little has also changed inside, which is no bad thing because the Qashqai has a smart, functional interior, though top-spec models now feel more plush thanks to some soft Alcantara upholstery.

More useful is the introduction of a new Google-powered infotainment system within the main 12.3-inch display. It means the excellent Google Maps is built-in, and you can use the Play Store to download apps such as Spotify to play music.

Nissan Qashqai e-Power deals: save over £6,400*

The Nissan Qashqai e-Power usually starts from £34,260, but through Carwow you can get it for £29,424. This makes it around £5,000 cheaper than a Volkswagen Tiguan.

Nissan Qashqai e-Power

The biggest savings can be found on the Tekna model, with £6,482 off at the time of writing. This model comes with upgraded 19-inch alloy wheels, a glass panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

Out on the road, Nissan’s e-Power system is at its best around town. Unlike most hybrid cars, the petrol engine is only there to act as a generator for the battery, with only the electric motor powering the wheels. This is great at city speeds as it drives smoothly and quietly like an electric car. But at higher speeds, the sound from the engine doesn’t always correlate to the speed you’re doing, which can be quite jarring.

Nissan Qashqai e-Power alternatives

Here are some other options for you to consider:

Volkswagen Tiguan: Spacious and practical but pretty dull to drive.
Ford Kuga: Smaller boot than alternatives but plug-in hybrid has a decent electric range.
Citroen C5 Aircross: Chic styling but rear seats are a bit tight.
