Nissan will launch three new electric cars between now and the end of 2026, and one of them looks pretty familiar.

  • Nissan teases three new electric cars
  • New Nissan Micra coming soon
  • Based on the Renault 5 underneath
  • New Nissan Leaf to follow shortly after…
  • …with parts from the Ariya
  • All-electric Nissan Juke due in 2026

New Nissans are seemingly like buses – you wait ages for one, then suddenly three turn up at once. The brand has just previewed a handful of new models, including the long-awaited Micra replacement which was first teased over three years ago.

It’ll be almost identical to the Renault 5 E-Tech under the skin as both cars were developed using the same collection of parts. An all-new Leaf will follow shortly after, and an all-electric Juke will arrive in 2026.

New Nissan Micra teased: a sense of deja vu

Around two years after its predecessor quietly left the showrooms, the new Nissan Micra is going to be revealed very soon. This is the only picture we have for now, but you may already be thinking that it looks familiar.

That’s because this is essentially a Renault 5 with a slightly different body, which is why the boxy side profile is almost identical. You see the new Micra has been developed alongside the 5 by Renault’s EV specialists at Ampere.

This means you will be able to get the same 40kWh and 52kWh battery options as its French counterpart, and maximum range is the same 248 miles on a charge.

You’ll have to wait until the car is revealed in full to find out the full extent of this car’s makeover to distinguish it from the Renault 5. For now you can just see the new round headlights up front, as well as a new crease down the side of the car. It looks as though the rear end will get a slightly more curvy design treatment as well.

Sales of the new Micra will start by the end of the year, although there’s no word on price just yet, but expect a sub-£25,000 figure.

New Nissan Leaf: mid-sized EV coming soon

This is the all-new Nissan leaf. The outgoing car was really starting to show its age, so this one has some work to do to put the Leaf back on top in this class.

The styling is radically different to the old model, and it’s a change for the better. It’s much less awkward and gawky-looking, with a new, more sleek shape which isn’t dissimilar to the larger Ariya.

Speaking of the Ariya, the new Leaf will share parts with that car under the skin. It’s not yet been confirmed which battery options will be available, but it’s likely to use the Ariya’s 63kWh pack with the possibility of a larger 87kWh option.

When fitted with the smaller battery, the Aryia can do up to 250 miles on a charge. Being a smaller, and presumably lighter, car the new Leaf could get around 270 miles of range, putting it on-par with mid-range versions of the Volkswagen ID3. Fit it with the bigger pack and this could easily push north of 350 miles.

New Nissan Juke goes electric: third-generation SUV coming next year

The final car in this trio of new models is the third iteration of the Nissan Juke. When it first launched back in 2010 the quirky-looking Juke pretty much kick-started the trend of tiny, city-friendly SUVs. A trend which has killed off cars like the Ford Fiesta.

When it launches in 2026 the new Juke will go all-electric for the first time. There’s no word on specs just yet, although it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some parts sharing with the similarly-sized Renault 4 – which in turn shares parts with the Renault 5. A 52kWh battery and around 250 miles of range therefore seems likely.

As for the design, this darkened teaser is your best look for now. You can just about make out the similarly chunky proportions to the current Juke, and Nissan has said that this car will take inspiration from the bonkers Hyper Punk concept car from 2023.

That car was pretty wild with its metal origami angles and scissor doors. Expect the Juke to be toned-down quite a lot, but it’s still likely to be an outlandish-looking thing. This has always been this model’s USP after all.
