Car changing is a big deal
The futuristic-looking new Polestar 5 has been caught out and about testing in the Arctic, and this Tesla alternative will go on sale in 2025.
- New Polestar 5 spotted testing
- Electric four-door coupe coming next year
- No rear window – just like the Polestar 4
- Over 400 miles of range expected
- 870hp dual-motor setup likely
- On sale in 2025
This is the new Polestar 5 – a big four-door coupe which will provide a stylish Scandinavian alternative to the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model S.
It continues the trend started by the Polestar 4 of having no rear window, and it has a few similar styling cues to that car as well. Order books are expected to open in 2025.
New Polestar 5 design
Polestar’s naming structure is different from any other car maker. The name of each model isn’t related to the bodystyle, they’re named in chronological order. So the 5 will be the fifth model the brand has launched.

It shares a lot of design cues with the Polestar 4, especially up front. It has similar double-stacked headlights at the front, and the 5’s low bonnet line gives it a sporty edge as well. It does look wider than the 4 though, making it appear more muscular.

The silhouette is long and flowing, with a sleek sloping roofline and squared-off haunches at the rear and flush-fitting door handles making it look modern.

Just like the Polestar 4, this car doesn’t have a rear window. This gives it a unique look at the back because the panoramic glass roof comes back so far. You also have some funky-looking tail lights which wrap around the rear.
New Polestar 5 batteries and motors
While there are no official details around what’s powering this car yet, apart from the fact that it’s electric, it’s safe to assume that the 5 will share parts with other Polestar models.

You can expect to see the 111kWh battery used in the Polestar 3 SUV as well as the Volvo EX90. In the 3 it delivers up to 438 miles of range in rear-wheel drive form, or 392 miles if you go for the dual-motor car. The 5 is likely to tout similar figures.

It should also have some impressive performance figures, with the dual motor expected to get 870hp and 900Nm of torque. It won’t scare the Tesla model S Plaid, but the Porsche Taycan Turbo will need to keep an eye on its rear-view mirror.
When can I buy the new Polestar 5?
The Polestar 5 will be revealed in full next year, with sales expected to start towards the end of 2025. There’s no word on price just yet, but it’ll fetch a premium over the smaller 4. A figure of around £70,000 seems likely.
