Car changing is a big deal
Not ready for an electric car just yet? Well the new Renault Clio will continue to use combustion engines for the foreseeable future.
- New Renault Clio spotted testing
- Design appears more aggressive
- Retains petrol and hybrid engines
- No electric version planned
- Likely to go on sale in 2027
This is the new Renault Clio, the sixth generation of the brand’s small hatchback which provides an alternative to cars like the Peugeot 208, Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Yaris.
It’s been spotted testing wearing a pretty heavy disguise ahead of its reveal, which is expected in 2027. Not a huge amount is known about the mechanicals just yet, other than the fact it’ll offer petrol and hybrid engines to avoid crossover with the all-electric Renault 5 E-Tech.
New Renault Clio design
The new Renault Clio’s final design won’t be revealed for a year or so yet, but these photos from our spy photographers show a pre-production car in heavy camouflage to give you an idea of the proportions.

Up front it appears to have a much lower bumper than the current Clio, giving it a slightly more sporty and aggressive look. It also has more of a coupe-esque sloping roofline than the current car.

Moving to the rear you have a strong crease in the bootlid which may remind you of the Alfa Romeo Junior, and there’s a pretty large roof spoiler as well. The taillights are pretty well-hidden for now, but expect some sleek LED units to be lurking beneath that wrap.
New Renault Clio engines
The new Renault Clio will continue to offer petrol and hybrid engines, and there are no plans for an all-electric version on the horizon as this would tread on the toes of the new Renault 5 E-Tech.

It’s not known exactly what engines will be available just yet, however you can expect a similar range of mild hybrid petrol and full hybrid units to the current Clio, with the latter now able to be sold in the UK until 2035 following the recent softening of the ZEV mandate.
When can I buy the new Renault Clio?
The new Renault Clio is likely to go on sale in 2027, however it’s too early to put a price on this car just yet. The current Clio starts from around £19,000, so you can expect to add a couple of grand to this figure.
