Renault was one of the first companies to offer a mainstream electric car in the form of the Zoe, and since then, various electric Renault models – albeit pretty obscure ones – have come and gone (remember the Fluence and the Twizy?). These days, Renault’s line-up of electric models comprises two (with plenty more coming soon), and in this guide, we take a brief look at both.

Renault Zoe

We said it was Renault’s first mainstream electric car, hitting the market way back in 2012, and all these years later, the original Renault Zoe is still here. It’s had plenty of tweaks and improvements along the way, but the basic design is the same, and it’s starting to feel its age as a result. It feels decidedly unpolished on the road these days, and when retested by Euro NCAP back in 2021, it was given a zero-star rating.

Renault Megane E-Tech

While the Zoe is feeling its age, the Renault Megane E-Tech could scarcely feel more cutting-edge. It looks brilliant for starters, while the plush cabin, trimmed with recycled materials, is dominated by huge, slick-looking screens for a pleasantly high-tech feel. They’re easy to use, too. Practicality could be better, admittedly, with tight rear headroom and a high boot lip. On the road, meanwhile, the Megane offers a comfortable, quiet driving experience.
