Renault is a past-master at the small car game, having made such all-time classics as the Renault 5, the Renault 4, the original Clio, and the all-electric Zoe. These days, the Renault small-car lineup consists of the latest Clio, the last-of-the-line Zoe electric hatchback, and the all-electric Megane E-Tech.

Renault small car range: current models

Renault’s small car range is a mixture of traditional small hatchbacks with a choice of petrol, hybrid, or fully-electric power, or an electric-only option in the shape of the Megane.

Renault Clio

The Clio is Renault’s longest-serving small car, and mixes sharp styling with a high-quality cabin and the choice of simple petrol, or more high-tech hybrid power. It’s good to drive, but not as much fun as some rivals.

Renault Zoe

The Zoe was originally Renault’s first all-electric car, but it’s been massively updated over the years, and now has a useful 245 mile range, plus fast 22kW AC charging — handy for charging at the kerbside. It’s a bit narrow inside, and not the best fun to drive, but it’s a good starter electric car.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric

The Megane E-Tech is a seriously classy electric car, with a 279 mile range, and a very high-tech cabin. The screens (there’s two) use software designed for Renault by Google, so they’re super-slick and in spite of the low roof, the cabin is roomy. It’s even good fun to drive.

Renault small cars FAQs

Yes, the Zoe is just 4.0 metres long, and only 1.7 metres wide, and it has a tight turning circle of just 10 metres, so it’s very good at nipping in and out of small spaces in town.
Right now, the Clio is the smallest car made by Renault, but the company does have plans for a smaller city car, which will revive the styling and badge of the 1990s Twingo. That’s due to go on sale in 2026.
