The UK’s favourite fastest-selling cars

Looking to sell your motor fast? Our new research reveals the UK’s quickest-selling used car, based on the nation’s most popular vehicles. And taking the top spot is the Peugeot 107, which flies off the market in just one week![1] If you’re looking to make a quick sale, this little hatchback tops the list, taking only seven days on average to find a new home.

Our study dug into vehicle licensing data to discover which popular models get snapped up the fastest by our dealers. Hot on the Peugeot 107’s heels are the Hyundai i10, Vauxhall Astra, and Vauxhall Corsa – all selling in less than eight days on average.[2]

Rounding out the top 10 are other fast movers like the MINI Cooper, Ford Focus, and Volkswagen up!, all selling in under nine days.

How does fuel type impact sale time?

When it comes to fuel type, we know that this can have a pretty big impact on our car-changing decisions. Traditional petrol engines are usually in higher demand because they’re widely available and familiar to most drivers. Meanwhile, diesel vehicles have often appealed to high-mileage drivers. But as electric vehicles (EV) become more popular and infrastructure grows, have sales sped up to match?

When comparing the most popular EVs to popular petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid electric (petrol) vehicles, our dealers take a little longer to snap up EVs than other cars – just over 10 days in total.[3]

That said, EV owners won’t be waiting much longer than petrolheads to move their motors, as it takes just under two extra days to sell an electric vehicle, on average. And there’s even less of a gap between sellers of EVs and both plug-in hybrid electric and diesel cars.

Fuel type Average sale duration, days (average of 20 most licensed)
Petrol 8.81
Diesel 8.66
Battery electric 10.08
Plug-in hybrid electric (petrol) 9.69

The fastest-selling electric vehicles

Despite taking a little longer than ICE vehicles, our data reveals that not all EVs are slow to sell—some models actually move fast! In fact, among the top 20 most popular electric vehicles, the Polestar 2 takes the crown, selling in just under seven days on average.

Depending on the exact model, owners of some EVs can expect to shift their cars just as fast as those with petrol engines. Here are the 10 EVs that dealers couldn’t wait to snap up:

Fastest-selling battery electric cars Average sale duration, days
POLESTAR 2 6.85
VOLKSWAGEN ID4 8.15
TESLA MODEL 3 9.03
MG 4 9.08
JAGUAR I-PACE 9.15
TESLA MODEL Y 9.3
MG 5 9.5
PEUGEOT 2008 9.52
HYUNDAI KONA 9.69
VOLKSWAGEN ID3 9.74

The Volkswagen ID4 comes in second, selling in just over eight days, while the rest of the top 10 EVs take a bit longer—more than nine days to find new owners.

On the hybrid side, the Mercedes CLA Class is the speed champion, selling in around eight days on average – the quickest of the most popular plug-in hybrid electric (petrol) vehicles. Hot on its heels are the BMW X5, VW Tiguan, and VW Passat, all moving in nine days or less, securing their place in the top five fastest movers of this fuel type.

About the data

[1] The average sale time was taken from Carwow’s internal sales data, based on the time from upload to net sale. The fastest-selling car makes were sourced directly from this data.

[2] The fastest-selling car models were sourced by first finding the top 20 most popular models based on those with the highest number licensed at the end of the first quarter of 2024. Licensing stats were sourced from the Department for Transport and DVLA: Vehicles at the end of the quarter by licence status, body type, make, generic model and model: United Kingdom.

The average sale time through Carwow was then sourced for each of these models, giving us the top 10 with the quickest sale time.

[3] The fastest-selling fuel type was sourced by comparing the average sale duration for the top 20 models as above, split by the most popular fuel types: petrol, diesel, battery electric and plug-in hybrid electric (petrol).
