Hot on the heels of the updated Model Y, Tesla has launched the new Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. This will sit just above the current entry-level model, and a host of efficiency tweaks have bumped the range up by almost 120 miles.
This new long-range model is on sale now, and it costs £5,000 more than the basic Rear-Wheel Drive model at £44,990.
New Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive: what’s new?
Don’t spend too long trying to spot the differences between this new Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive and the standard, because there are no design changes at all. All the work has happened under the skin to improve range and efficiency.
Tesla has been very vague in describing what these tweaks to efficiency are, but the important bit to note is the improvement in range. This Model 3 will do 436 miles on a charge, a huge improvement over 318 miles you got previously.
This means it’ll now go almost 50 miles further than the dual-motor Long Range model, and crucially the Tesla now has 30 miles more range than the Polestar 2.
It also has a claimed efficiency rating of almost 5.0 miles per kWh, trumping the Polestar 2’s 4.2 miles per kWh. If anything, this is the more important number because the more efficient your EV is, the less it’ll cost you in electricity.
New Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive price and specs
The new Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive is available to order now with prices starting from £44,990, a £5,000 increase over the standard Rear-Wheel Drive car.
No other electric car offers this much range for the money. A Polestar 2 costs exactly the same as the new Model 3, but doesn’t offer the same range. The new Peugeot E-3008 on the other hand gets close in terms of range but is more expensive to buy by a couple of thousand pounds.
