A new performance version of the Vauxhall Grandland Electric is on the way, which could inject the sensible SUV with some much-needed excitement.
It’s likely to use a dual-motor setup, probably the same one coming to the Peugeot E-5008 soon, and it could also get some sporty styling upgrades.
New Vauxhall Grandland GSe: what do we know so far?
Vauxhall already hinted at a dual-motor variant of the Grandland Electric when it was launched. As it stands you can only buy it with a single motor powering the front wheels, making an unremarkable 213hp. It’s plenty quick enough for most people’s needs, but it won’t exactly set your pulse racing.
We got talking to Vauxhall’s UK managing director at the launch of the new Frontera Electric, and he confirmed that a GSe version of the Grandland Electric is coming next year. Exact details are sparse for now, but you can expect it to have a healthy dose of extra power.
This could also be the dual-motor version hinted at earlier, and it’s likely to use the same setup as you’ll be able to get on the mechanically similar Peugeot E-5008. That car will have 320hp, putting it in the same ballpark as the Skoda Enyaq vRS and Volkswagen ID4 GTX, but falling short of the bonkers Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.
The Grandland Electric GSe isn’t likely to be quite as extreme as the Ioniq 5 N either. You can expect it to be like the Astra GSe, a warmed-over version with some styling tweaks and more power. We’ll know more when the car gets closer to launch in 2025.
