An all-new Volkswagen T-Roc is on the horizon, and the ever-popular small SUV has been spotted during development testing by car Carwow’s spy photographers. Read on for all you need to know.

  • New Volkswagen T-Roc spotted
  • All-new styling for small SUV
  • Infotainment tech could be shared with the Golf
  • Same range of engines expected
  • Full reveal towards the end of the year

Hot on the heels of the new Passat and Tiguan, a new Volkswagen T-Roc is in the works. It’s been spotted out and about by the Carwow spy photographers, and you can just about make out the important styling changes.

Not much is known about the specs for this Nissan Juke alternative, but it’s likely to retain the same range of engines as the Volkswagen Golf. You can expect to see a full reveal in the next 12 months.

New Volkswagen T-Roc design

This Volkswagen T-Roc prototype is wearing a pretty thin disguise, and you can tell that it’s more than just a facelift. The body panels are all new, and it seems to have more of a sleek appearance than before.

The grille has been cleverly covered up to make it look like the current car’s, but there’s no hiding the new headlights. They’re more swept back than before, and you can bet that the production car will come with some super bright LEDs.

It retains the same sloping roofline as the current T-Roc, and the new door mirrors appear to be lifted from the new Tiguan. Changes to the rear seem to be equally undramatic for now, although it does look like there’s a new light bar hiding under some vinyl on the tailgate.

New Volkswagen T-Roc interior and infotainment

Look closely though the side of the new Volkswagen T-Roc and you can just about see the infotainment screen poking out of the dashboard. It looks very similar to the one you’ll find in the recently updated Volkswagen Golf, and it would be no surprise if it turned out to be the same system.

Expect a similar dashboard layout to the new Golf (pictured)

That’s because the current T-Roc is essentially a raised-up Golf, and this new one will follow the same recipe. This means you can also expect a similar overall dashboard layout to that car, making it look far more modern than the current car’s ageing cabin.

New Volkswagen T-Roc engines

There’s no official word on what will be powering the new Volkswagen T-Roc, but it’s a safe bet that it’ll have the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the Golf. A plug-in hybrid option is also on the cards.

As for the hot hatch-derived Volkswagen T-Roc R, expect to see the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine lurking under the bonnet. More power is on the cards though, with the potential for the 333hp unit from the limited-run Golf R333 to find its way in.

When can I buy the new Volkswagen T-Roc?

The new Volkswagen T-Roc is still under development for now, so you’ll likely be waiting until the end of the year to see a full reveal of this car. It’s probably going to be wearing a bigger price tag as well, with a figure of around £30,000 to be expected.
