The best cars on sale for £300 per month

August 02, 2024 by

Dealers often offer big discounts on their new models to push up their sales figures. They tend to bundle these savings into finance deals with very attractive monthly payments. These deals are usually packaged as Personal Contract Hire (PCH) or Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) agreements.

A PCH scheme is a leasing practice where the finance company owns the car, and you hand it back once the lease period is over. Benefits include lower monthly payments and the opportunity to drive a new car every few years.

PCP deals are more popular as they offer buyers more options. They also comprise of a deposit and monthly payments, but have an optional final payment if you intend to keep the car.

The Carwow team set themselves a budget of £300 per month and found the best deals currently available. From practical SUVs to EVs and even a city-friendly convertible, here are five of our favourites.

Keep in mind that every finance deal is tailored to the individual, and payments will vary based on the length of the agreement, the size of the deposit, and annual mileage. Every Carwow offer is for a brand-new, unregistered car and includes 12 months of road tax, number plates, and a full UK manufacturer warranty. The figure you see includes VAT and is the on-the-road price.

BYD Dolphin – £275/month

Model: 60.4kWh Auto Comfort
Agreement type: Lease
Agreement length: 48 months
Deposit: £3,598

Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular, and manufacturers like BYD are focusing on offering the most value for money possible. The BYD Dolphin all-electric hatchback undercuts alternatives like the MG4 EV, Volkswagen ID3, and Peugeot e-208 by some margin, yet doesn’t compromise on performance, spec levels or range.

The higher-spec Design trim can be had for £275 per month over four years, with a £3,598 deposit. Increasing the deposit amount can lower the monthly payment even further. The maximum mileage is 5,000 miles per year, but can be adjusted to suit your requirements.

Suzuki Swift Sport – £264/month

Model: 1.4 Boosterjet 48V Hybrid Sport
Agreement type: Lease
Agreement length: 48 months
Deposit: £3,468

The compact little Suzuki Swift Sport is perfect for tight city streets during the week and flowing back roads on the weekends. It dashes to 62mph in 9.1 seconds, which feels quicker than it is thanks to the eager nature of the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. It even averages an impressive 50.4mpg, so running costs should be low.

Getting a Suzuki Swift Sport through a four-year lease deal will set you back £264 each month plus an initial payment of £3,468. The maximum mileage per annum is 5,000 miles, after which each mile will be charged at 12p. You can adjust this figure based on your needs, which can make for a significant saving over the lease period. If you fancy a Swift Sport, you’ll have to snap one up quickly because it was recently discontinued.

Nissan Qashqai – £224/month

Skoda Octavia Estate – £260/month

Model: 1.5 TSI SE Technology
Agreement type: Lease
Agreement length: 24 months
Deposit: £3,430

The Skoda Octavia Estate is the ideal car for those wanting a quality vehicle but aren’t badge snobs. The latest Octavia models offer a high-quality interior, and proven VW underpinnings at prices that undercut anything of a similar size. It’s not the most fun to drive, or the most sharply styled, but in terms of value, space, and practicality the Skoda Octavia Estate is a tough act to beat.

The 1.5 TSI models are the most popular, offering good performance, decent economy and plenty of kit. You can lease one for £260 per month over 24 months with a £3,430 deposit. For an even bigger saving, check out the lower trims like the 1.0 TSI Se Technology model.

Cupra Formentor – £261/month

Model: 1.5 DSG 150 V2
Agreement type: Lease
Agreement length: 48 months
Deposit: £3,396

It’s hard to believe that you can get an SUV as stylish as the Cupra Formentor for under £300 per month, but here we are. You can lease this spicy Spanish crossover for £261 per month over four years, as long as you don’t stray over 5,000 miles per year. That said, it’s still only £274 per month if you increase this to 10,000 miles per year – with a slightly larger £3,564 deposit that is.

The Formentor is pretty good fun to drive for a jacked-up hatchback, although at this price you won’t be getting the hot-hatch-beating 300hp engine. You’ll have to make do with the 150hp 1.5-litre lump, but it’s still peppy enough for most people and it’s more economical as well.
