10 loud cars on sale right now

June 20, 2022 by

For many, a quiet and sedate drive is a top priority. For those that enjoy driving, however, the noise a car makes is integral to the experience. While many mainstream cars are capable of fantastic performance figures, many don’t offer that all-important emotive soundtrack.

Check out this list of cars that have a raucous roar that matches their abilities on the road. These cacophonous cars will be music to your ears.

10 really loud cars that you can buy right now:

  1. Abarth 695
  2. Ford Mustang Mach 1
  3. Aston Martin DBS
  4. Jaguar F-Type R
  5. Lexus LC 500
  6. Mercedes-AMG E63 S
  7. BMW M8 Competition
  8. Porsche 911 GT3
  9. Ferrari 812 GTS
  10. Lamborghini Aventador

1. Abarth 695

  • Power: 182hp
  • Top speed:140mph
  • 0-60mph: 6.7-seconds

Don’t be fooled by its diminutive proportions, the Abarth 695 is a mad little performance car with an exhaust note to match. Its 182hp may seem a bit underwhelming, but in this tiny package it helps rocket the 695 to 60mph in a rather sprightly 6.7-seconds.

With the Fiat 500 – the car the Abarth is based on – now moving to electric power, this may be your last chance to own something as wonderfully silly as this.

2. Ford Mustang Mach 1

  • Power: 460hp
  • Top Speed: 163mph
  • 0-60mph: 4.6-seconds

Unlike previous generations, the Ford Mustang is available directly from UK dealers in right-hand-drive guise so you can have your own slice of the American dream right on the driveway. It’s reasonably priced too, and it’s now only available with a 5.0-litre V8.

As you’d expect from a muscle car, it sounds fabulous. There are no soft limiters here either, so you can rev it at a standstill all the way to the red line to enjoy that engine note.

3. Aston Martin DBS

  • Power: 715hp
  • Top speed: 211mph
  • 0-60mph: under 3.4-seconds

The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera is a mobile work of art that just happens to sound like a squadron of bombers flying by. That all-encompassing soundtrack is courtesy of a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 that delivers an astounding 715bhp.

Flat out it’ll do 211mph, but you needn’t be going more than walking speed to appreciate the sound it makes. It even has two tiny rear seats which means school runs are technically possible.

4. Jaguar F-Type R

  • Power: 575hp
  • Top Speed: 186mph
  • 0-60mph: 3.7-seconds

You’ll find that all Jaguar F-Types produce an astonishing engine-note – the V6 units are just as good to drive and would be more practical for day-to-day use but, for the best noise, the V8 is the only choice.

Pick this engine and you get full-on muscle-car power in one of the most beautiful bodies currently on sale. For those that want to appreciate the gruff exhaust note to the full, the convertible version is even better than the Coupe.

5. Lexus LC 500

  • Power:464hp
  • Top speed: 168mph
  • 0-60mph: 4.7-seconds

There aren’t many naturally-aspirated engines left, least of all large capacity V8s, and the 464bhp 5.0-litre unit in the nose of the Lexus LC500 is a musical masterpiece.

It looks the part, too, with stunning lines that will get you noticed even when standing still. There’s also a 359bhp hybrid, but forget about decent fuel economy and lower running costs and go straight for that awesome V8.

6. Mercedes-AMG E63 S

  • Power:620hp
  • Top Speed: 155mph(limited)
  • 0-60mph: 3.4-seconds

You can’t really go wrong with any AMG-badged Mercedes when it comes to soundtrack, but with the lower tier models now moving to four-cylinder power, you’ll need to stretch to offerings like the E63 S saloon to get the full V8 experience.

The 612bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 does duty in a number of AMG products (as well as some Aston Martins), and in the E63 S it offers a purposeful burble at lower speeds combined with a supercar-rivalling bellow at higher speeds. With a 0-60mph time of 3.4-seconds, its bite backs up its bark.

7. BMW M8 Competition

  • Power: 625hp
  • Top speed: 155mph(limited)
  • 0-60mph 3.0-seconds

The latest sporty offerings from BMW have received a mixed reception thanks to some challenging design cues, thankfully the BMW M8 Competition not only looks stunning but performs like a supercar, too.

From idling speeds right up to its 155mph (limited) top speed, the M8 Competition emits a deep V8 bellow that will have bystanders diving for cover. All this speed and noise doesn’t come cheap, but the 530bhp M850i is nearly as impressive and will save you over £20,000. If the budget allows, go for the four-door M8 Competition Gran Coupe, practical performance at its best.

8. Porsche 911 GT3

  • Power: 503hp
  • Top speed: 199mph
  • 0-60mph: 3.2-seconds PDK (3.7-seconds for Manual)

The current Porsche 911 range offers a bewildering array of combinations to get lost in. However, if you’re after the biggest driving thrills and most scintillating engine and exhaust note to accompany it, You’ll want the 911 GT3.

Being the only 911 model left that does without turbocharging, it gets a 9,000rpm rev limit and an exhaust sound that is unmuted by the usually restrictive turbo plumbing. It is best sampled on a racetrack where you can experience its razor-sharp handling without fear of spending the next 10 years in solitary confinement.

9. Ferrari 812 GTS

  • Power:800hp
  • Top Speed: 211mph
  • 0-60mph: 2.8-seconds

The Ferrari 812 GTS has the world’s most potent naturally aspirated engine under the bonnet, producing 800hp from its 6.5-litre V12, this is not your average open-topped cruiser.

The shriek from its quad tailpipes is an experience to savour, and with every other Ferrari in the range now either using turbochargers or hybrid assistance, it is quite possibly the last of its kind.

Lamborghini Aventador

  • Power: 700hp
  • Top Speed: 221mph
  • 0-60mph: under 2.9-seconds

The Lamborghini Aventador has been around since 2011 but you wouldn’t guess by looking at it. Those jetfighter lines are just as jaw-dropping now as they were 11-years ago, and the original versions produce 700hp from the 6.5-litre V12 mounted behind the driver.

That may be slightly down on the Ferrari 812, but the Lambo comes standard with four-wheel-drive which gives it a traction advantage away from the lights.
