Ford Edge sizes and dimensions guide
September 26, 2016 by carwow staff
The Ford Edge is a large five-seater, four-wheel drive SUV that Ford hopes will sway UK buyers away from the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe and the more expensive Volkswagen Touareg.
The Edge not only represents good value for money but boasts a more spacious interior and a bigger boot than many rivals. With that in mind, we’ve put together a handy guide with all the key figures you’ll need to decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Exterior dimensions
The Edge is certainly an imposing vehicle. Measuring 4,775mm in length, it’s longer than a Santa Fe (4,690mm) and only marginally shorter than a Touareg (4,801mm). It’s not the slimmest car either – at 2,184mm wide, it’s on par with a Land Rover Discovery.
Height | 1,692mm |
Length | 4,775mm |
Width (including mirrors) | 2,184mm |
Wheelbase | 2,944mm |
Interior dimensions
Although slightly shorter than the Touareg, the Edge’s more spacious inside – there’s more headroom in both the front and back than the VW, while rear seat passengers will find they have more space than in the much pricier BMW X5, too. That said, it’s worth remembering Ford won’t be offering a seven-seat model so, if you need a people carrier, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
Headroom (front/back) | 1,021mm/1,023mm |
Legroom (front/back) | 1,082mm/1,031mm |
Boot space
The Edge comes with a capacious 602-litre boot with the rear seats in place. Fold them down, however, and you’ll have access to a cavernous 1,847-litre load bay – more than enough for the odd trip to the tip or for carrying bulky furniture.
Rear seats up | 602 litres |
Rear seats down | 1,847 litres |
Fuel tank capacity and turning circle
The Edge’s 11.9m turning circle is on par for a large SUV – it’s just shy of the Land Rover Discovery (11.4m), and slightly more manoeuvrable than the Audi Q7 (12m). Fitted with the most powerful twin-turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine on offer, you can expect it to return 48mpg. Brim the tank and you’ll be able to cover approximately 720 miles before the next fill up – an impressive figure for a car this size.
Fuel tank | 68 litres |
Turning circle | 11.9 metres |
Weight
Despite its substantial proportions, the heaviest Edge still weighs less than the lightest Santa Fe (2,001kg). Its size, weight and the option of a powerful 207hp diesel engine with 322lb ft of torque mean the Edge makes a good tow car. VW’s Touareg does, however, boast slightly greater towing limits.
Kerbweight (Front wheel drive) | 1,774kg |
Kerbweight (four-wheel-drive) | 1,850kg |
Tow limit (unbraked/braked) | 680kg/1,587kg |
