Metallic - Magnetic blue
Free
While it’s good to see a car coming with something other than plain white as a free colour, the sad fact is that Magnetic blue just doesn’t suit the C5 X. It’s a colour that works fine on smaller models, but it makes the bigger, grander C5 look a little cheap. A shame.

Special metallic - Amazonite Grey
£650
This is the best colour for the C5 X — yes, it’s a metallic grey just like every other large car around, but there’s enough khaki-green in it to make it far more interesting than most, and it really suits the C5 X’s sleek, subtle lines.
Special metallic - Cumulus grey
£650
It’s a bit on the plain side compared to Amazonite, but Cumulus grey works well enough on the C5 X. It’s a smart colour, albeit one that might cause you to lose even the distinctive-looking Citroen in a crowded car park.
Special metallic - Perla nera black
£650
Traditionally, big Citroens have always looked good in black (think of the original DS, the CX, the Traction Avant) but while the C5 X doesn’t really upset that lineage, Perla nera black is just a bit too plain for its own good. It really needs some warm gold undertones to make the colour work.
Special metallic - Platinum grey
£650
Platinum grey really ought to suit the C5 X — after all, it’s a large, prestigious looking car so metallic grey should be the default, right? Well, yes but Platinum grey has just a faint hint of brown in it that makes it look too sludgey and not sleek enough, so it just doesn’t quite work.
Pearl - Pearl white
£850
This is a lot of money to pay for what is actually a fairly ordinary metallic white, and on a car the size of the C5 X it just looks too plain. Up close, you can see the nice pearl effect of the paint, but the further back you get the more boring it looks.
