Dacia has long since used older Renault engines in its lineup to keep its prices down, but the demand for more fuel-efficient and low-emissions cars means that the Dacia hybrid lineup now uses the latest-tech engines, borrowed from the Renault range.

Dacia hybrids: current models

Dacia currently has two hybrid models in its lineup — the seven seat Jogger and the Duster SUV.

Dacia Jogger

The Jogger, which is really more of a tall estate than a full-on SUV, is one of the most practical cars you can buy, with seats for seven and space for adults even in the third row. The 1.6-litre hybrid engine is a little noisy at times, but it’s economical and the automatic makes the Jogger smoother to drive.

Dacia Duster

The latest Duster does without a diesel engine, so for fuel-sipping driving the best option is this new 1.6-litre hybrid, which should easily top 45mpg, and maybe even 50mpg, in daily driving. It’s a properly rugged car, the Duster, and doesn’t feel as cheap as it used to, although it’s not as nice to drive as some others.

Dacia hybrid cars FAQs

Yes it does, in fact Dacia is replacing its diesel engines with hybrid power, and both the Jogger seven-seater and the new Duster are available with the same 1.6-litre hybrid engine.
No, the Jogger doesn’t come with a plug-in hybrid — it’s a more straightforward ‘self-charging’ hybrid, based around a 1.6-litre petrol engine. That said, Renault — Dacia’s owner — has some plug-in hybrid tech at the back of its company cupboards, so if Dacia decides there’s enough customer demand for a PHEV Jogger, it could happen.
