I loved this electric SUV, and now you can get it for half price

Car changing is a big deal
This premium EV is both sporty to drive and comfortable over long distances, and second-hand examples are now going for half the price of new ones.
It’s hard to believe that nearly six years have passed since I first drove the Jaguar I-Pace. It’s still a properly lovely electric car to drive, but its days are numbered because Jaguar has stopped making it. If you want a brand new one, it’ll have to be from existing stock.
But I don’t think you should buy a brand new I-Pace, because it’s a much more appealing proposition on the second hand market. A new one starts from £70,000, but I’ve found 2024 examples with low miles for as little as £35,000.
And that’s not even for a basic model, it’s the highly-specced HSE. This means you get things like heated and cooled sports seats, a head-up display and 20-inch alloy wheels, all for the same price as a top-spec Vauxhall Corsa Electric.
So what made this car so good? Well for starters you get decent range at nearly 300 miles. There are new SUVs which will go further on a charge, but there are very few premium cars at this price which will go as far.
It’s great to drive as well. Not only is it comfortable over bumps, it’s also good fun on a twisty road for a big, heavy electric car. You do get a fair amount of tyre noise in the cabin at motorway speeds, but it’s still a great long-distance cruiser.
It has a fabulous interior as well. It’s light and airy thanks to the standard-fit panoramic glass roof, and it manages to be minimalist without being completely stripped of physical switchgear. Build quality is decent as well, and the materials all feel suitably posh.
There are a few downsides to consider though, the main one being the infotainment system. It may look great, but the menus are pretty confusing to navigate and some of the shortcut buttons are too small to prod on the move.
Aside from this the Jaguar I-Pace is a great electric SUV. You’d be pretty peeved if you bought it new after losing around 50% of its value in a year, but this is great news for second-hand buyers because it’s now a proper bargain.
