Colour guide
Solid - Fuji red
Free
This is a bit of a brave choice for the NX, as Fuji red — named as much for the race track as the mountain — is a very bright, strident red and on a shape like the NX’s, it’s a lot. If you’re an extrovert, go for it.
Solid - Velvet black
Free
As solid colours go, Velvet black is a perfectly acceptable one. Sure, it’s a simple solid, but the NX’s complex, handsome lines push through the plainness.

Metallic - Celestial blue
£770
As with many colours, Celestial blue works best on a bright, sunny day and we don’t get enough of those in the UK. On wet, grey days it kind of flattens out into an ersatz purple, but if you have the patience to wait for the summer to come around, it’s another distinctive and striking colour option for the NX, and at least it’s not yet another variation on grey.
Metallic - F Sport White
£770
Why there’s a whole separate white for F-Sport models kind of eludes us. We’re sure that there is a gap between this and Sonic white (and at least it’s cheaper) but you’d need a magnifying glass and a Dulux colour card to spot the difference.
Metallic - Graphite black
£770
There is a greater sense of shine and depth to Graphite black than there is to basic Velvet black, but to be honest you really need a sunny day — and be standing close to the car — to see it. Not honestly worth the extra cash.
Metallic - Terrane khaki
£770
In Lexus-speak, titanium is sandy colour while kahki is actually green, and Terrane is fabulous shade of green, which can look military-spec under dull skies, but which sparkles and shimmers when the sun comes out. The best NX colour, and it makes the more expensive special metallic options looks uninteresting.
Special metallic - Azure blue
£1,020
Only available for sporty-looking F-Sport models, Azure blue is a deep, lustrous metallic blue that looks great on the NX, and acts as a good foil to all those metallic blue BMW shades.
Special metallic - Blazing carnelian
£1,020
Any shade with the word ‘blazing’ in its name is going to take some explaining, and this bright, bursting orange is pretty spectacular. Like Fuji red, it’s a lot to take in on the NX’s shape, and to be honest few people are likely to go for it, but it’s a striking colour and one we’re kind of glad Lexus offers, even if just for the laugh.
Special metallic - Sonic copper
£1,020
Special metallic - Sonic grey
£1,020
Speaking of which, here’s Sonic grey. Actually, that’s not fair as you can see that there’s a depth and warmth to Sonic grey that lifts it, if only slightly, above the hordes of other dark grey metallic SUVs. Not the NX’s most exciting colour option, but arguably it’s the most sensible one.
Special metallic - Sonic titanium
£1,020
What you assume would be a version of silver actually turns out to be more like metallic sand, with a hint of green iridescence in some lights. You could shrug it off as beige, but it’s really more complex than that, and while it’s not a default colour, it’s more interesting than you’d think.
Special metallic - Sonic white
£1,020
The NX’s curvy, distinctive shape means you avoid the normal ‘UN convoy’ problem of painting a big SUV in white, but even so this is a shade that struggles to work, especially under grey UK skies. It needs to be seen in Palm Springs, really. Also; it’s very expensive.
