Colour guide
Metallic - Graphite grey
Free
Graphite grey is just a touch too predictable a colour for the EQE, and it tends to both wash out the character of the shape, as well as making it look a little pudgy around the middle. Not the best colour option.
Metallic - High tech silver
Free
Mercedes and silver go together like gin and tonic, but High tech silver is a slightly lifeless shade of Mercedes’ signature paint. We’d much rather see the warmer, more interesting Mojave silver offered here.

Metallic - Obsidian black
Free
As you’d expect, the EQE’s low slung and sleek shape works very well in a free-of-charge metallic black, even if it is a bit of a basic choice. This is a shape that wear a stronger colour well, though, so you can do better…
Metallic - Sodalite blue
Free
Sodalite blue is a great choice for the EQE, as it’s dark enough to look classy but bright enough that it shines and shimmers just a little on a sunny day. For a no-cost paint option, this is an especially good one.
Manufaktur metallic - Opalite white
£695
Merc’s high-end ‘Manufaktur’ paints often offer a bit more visual interest, but this Opalite white fails to deliver. It just looks too much like a plain-wrapper white, and doesn’t do enough to justify spending the extra on it.
Manufaktur metallic - Patagonia red
£695
Really, you need to be buying the AMG high-performance versions of the EQE if you’re going to go for Patagonia red or the sporty colour will be writing cheques that your straight line speed can’t cash. It’s a great colour though, and works really well on the EQE’s shape. It’s not even that expensive an option.
Manufaktur solid - Alpine grey
£695
Alpine grey does what Opalite white magno is trying to do and does it for more than £1,000 less — it gives you an intriguing matte grey finish (which does, in fairness, look dangerously close to primer…) which really works well with the EQE’s low and sleek shape.
Manufaktur magno - Graphite grey
£1,995
Although it is more interesting to look at than the too-predictable metallic version of Graphite grey, the flat magno finish just doesn’t do enough to justify its high price tag, especially when cheaper Alpine grey gives you a more striking version of the same effect.
