Mercedes-Benz GLC 63 AMG Coupe (2019-2023) Review and Prices

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe is a slinkier-looking version of the standard AMG-tuned GLC 63 SUV. It’s nicer to look at – if not quite as practical – and comes with the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and grippy four-wheel-drive system that’ll sprint it from 0-60mph in less than four seconds.

As a result, this high-riding SUV will out-accelerate the likes of the BMW X4 M and plenty of serious performance cars. It’ll outdo most low-slung sports cars in the head-turning stakes, too, thanks to its vast alloy wheels, huge exhaust tips and massive air intakes.

You’ll find more eye-catching details inside the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe, including a flat-bottomed steering wheel, loads of contrasting stitching and a set of super-supportive sports seats.

Sadly, it isn’t all good news. While almost everything in the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s cabin feels like a true premium product, the dual-screen infotainment system is starting to look a little dated compared to the slick widescreen system you get in other Mercedes cars.

Cabin space is another area where the GLC 63 Coupe struggles. Sure, there’s plenty of room up front, but tall passengers will feel very cramped in the back and you don’t get quite as much boot space as in the boxier GLC 63. That being said, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe isn’t a car that you’ll be using to ferry friends around or cart old furniture to the tip.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe won’t appeal to everyone, but if you’re looking for a coupe-styled SUV with sports-car performance there aren’t many alternatives out there.

If you do plan to use your Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe every day, you’ll find it’s reasonably comfortable – in the adaptive suspension’s most relaxed setting, at least. More of an issue is the load roar you’ll hear from the large wheels and low-profile tyres at motorway speeds.

Turn off the motorway, and the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe’s 476hp twin-turbo V8 will help you instantly forget about these minor issues. It might not have as theatrical a soundtrack as the supercharged Jaguar F-Pace SVR, but it still sounds suitably ferocious.

With Sport+ mode engaged, you’ll find it’s impressively agile for such a big car and the grippy four-wheel-drive system and responsive nine-speed automatic gearbox helps make it feel very sure-footed on damp or unfamiliar roads.

For even more smiles per mile, there’s the faster GLC 63 S Coupe model with 510hp. This sprints from 0-60mph a fifth of a second faster than the standard car and will reach a staggering 174mph – if you happen to find yourself on an unlimited section of German autobahn, that is. Having said that, if it’s track days that float your boat you’ll probably be better off with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe is also more expensive than many other sporty SUVs, but if you’re looking for something stylish, relatively comfortable and supremely fast, it’s certainly worth considering.
