Colour guide
Solid - Arctic white
Free
Given that MG is very much a budget-conscious brand, you’ll be wanting the one free colour you get with the 5 EV estate to be a good one. Sadly, flat Arctic white just makes it look as if someone has pulled up outside to fix your boiler. What a shame.
Metallic - Black pearl
£545
Named after the pirate ship in that film, perhaps? Black pearl is a perfectly OK colour for the MG 5, and as with any black metallic it’s passably classy. Pretty boring though, and as you’re paying extra you can do better.

Metallic - Cosmic silver
£545
Cosmic sliver suffers slightly from the predictability that afflicts Black pearl, but actually it does look pretty smart on the MG 5, especially on the sharper styling of that new nose.
Metallic - Hampstead grey
£545
On a sunny day, you can pick out the faint dark blue undertones in Hampstead grey, but on anything other than a sunny day, it’s just a bit too dark and murky to be honest.
Metallic - Piccadilly blue
£545
Piccadilly blue might just be the best colour for the MG 5, as it’s bright and cheerful, but still retains a faintly classy air so that you can imagine it comes from the same colour catalogue MG used back in the sixties for sports cars.
Tri coat - Dynamic Red
£695
The deep, lustrous finish of Dynamic red marks it out as a particularly appealing colour, and it looks very smart on the MG 5, but it’s an extra £100 so maybe just save your cash and stick with Piccadilly blue.
