The new Xpeng G6 is available to order now, with first deliveries expected to start in the spring. With a starting price of £39,990, it’s a whopping £20,000 cheaper than the updated Tesla Model Y, although Tesla will launch a less expensive version of that car soon.

There are just two versions to choose from: the Standard Range and the Long Range. All cars come fully loaded with kit as standard, the only options you need to worry about is your interior and exterior colour scheme.

That kit list includes a 14.6-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera system, heated front and rear seats, a panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charging and an 18-speaker sound system.

New Xpeng G6 motors and batteries

There are two battery options on offer in the Xpeng G6, 66kWh or 88kWh. The Standard Range car will do 270 miles on a charge, while opting for the larger battery gets you 354 miles of range.

That’s around 20 miles down on the Tesla Model Y Long Range, but it’s almost 100 miles more than a BYD Atto 3 can manage.

Regardless of battery, the Xpeng G6 gets a single electric motor powering the rear wheels. In the Standard Range model it puts out 258hp, whereas the Long Range has 285hp. The 0-60mph times are pretty similar though at 6.6 and 6.2 seconds respectively.

New Xpeng G6 interior, infotainment and design

The Xpeng G6’s interior is a rather lovely place to sit, with plenty of plush materials and solid build quality making it feel like a premium product.

Sat proudly atop the dashboard is a 14.6-inch touchscreen which is used to control all of the car’s functions. Some physical controls for the climate would be nice, but at least the screen is super responsive and easy to use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included as standard.

Moving outside and the G6 has quite a modern and futuristic look to it. It has quite a rounded side profile, a bit like a pebble which has been washed smooth by the tide, and the slime front and rear light bars look pretty cool as well. For a limited time you can buy a G6 in bright orange, but once that shade disappears then you have a rather dull choice of white, silver, gray or black. Boo.
