Car changing is a big deal
We’ve managed to get hold of the fastest version of every Tesla you can buy, including the Cyberbeast, to see which is best in a drag race.
To say that Tesla makes some controversial cars would be an understatement, but you can’t deny that they are seriously quick. From the Model 3 Performance which can scare a BMW M3, to the bonkers 1,020hp Model S Plaid,
And of course there’s the Cybertruck. This may be a hunk of stainless steel weighing over three tonnes, but the Cyberbeast can still do 0-60mph in just over 2.5 seconds. That’s almost as quick as a Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
So what is the fastest Tesla you can buy? Well we’ve gathered the Model S, 3, X, Y and the Cyberbeast for a drag race to find out.
Tesla Model S Plaid
Let’s start with the Model S Plaid. Launched back in 2021, this spacious electric saloon took the world by storm with its claimed sub-2.0 second 0-60mph time. This did raise some eyebrows though, because Tesla measures 0-60mph using something called a one-foot rollout.

This essentially means it doesn’t start the timer until the car has moved one foot forward, which can make the numbers look better than they are in reality. We’ve managed a 2.5-second 0-60 run in the Plaid, which is still face-bendingly fast.

To make it this quick you get three electric motors which produce a combined 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels, and it weighs in at 2,190kg. All this can be yours for just under £116,000.
Tesla Model 3 Performance
The Model 3 Performance is the fastest Tesla you can properly buy in the UK. Yes, you can get a Model S or Model X Plaid, but they’re only available with left-hand drive. If you’re looking for an electric BMW M3 alternative for a lot less cash, this is it.
![](https://carwow-uk-wp-3.imgix.net/Tesla-Model-3-Performance-front.png?auto=format&cs=tinysrgb&fit=crop&h=&ixlib=rb-1.1.0&q=60&w=1600)
It has dual electric motors with a combined 460hp and 650Nm of torque, and this means it’s good for 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds. That’s more than half a second quicker than an M3. It tips the scales at 1,839kg, and costs just under £60,000.

It’s not just blistering performance you get either, because the Model 3 Performance is actually a proper laugh to drive. It may not be quite as visceral as a BMW M3, but it handles really well on a twisty road.
Tesla Model X Plaid
If you’re looking to embarrass supercars away from the lights, but you also need to carry six passengers, the Tesla Model X Plaid can do both. It uses the same tri-motor setup as the Model S Plaid, and so it has the same 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque.

The big SUV body does add weight, as do the crazy electric “Flacon Wing” doors, and as a result this car comes in at 2,464kg. That added heft dents the 0-60mph time compared to the S as well. Tesla claims it’ll do the sprint in 2.5 seconds, and we’ve managed to do it in 2.7 seconds. Still more than fast enough to make your kids revisit their breakfast.

Once you’re done honing about, the Model X Plaid becomes a practical and comfortable SUV with decent range and loads of tech on board. We did uncover some questionable build quality when we tested the car though, with some panel gaps the size of the Grand Canyon.
Tesla Model Y Performance
While the Tesla Model S and Model X Plaid use the same motor setup, the Model Y Performance doesn’t share the same 460hp motors as the Model 3 Performance. It still has two of them, but they put out 527hp and 660Nm of torque.
![](https://carwow-uk-wp-3.imgix.net/Tesla-Model-Y-Performance-front.png?auto=format&cs=tinysrgb&fit=crop&h=&ixlib=rb-1.1.0&q=60&w=1600)
That extra power doesn’t translate into a faster 0-60mph time compared to the Model 3 though, because this car takes 3.5 seconds to complete the sprint. That’s still not bad for a car which weighs nearly two tonnes.

The Model Y Performance doesn’t feel as fun to drive as the Model 3, mostly because the saloon is based on the facelifted car which gets a load of chassis and suspension upgrades. The Model Y is still easy to live with though, and it costs from £60,000.
Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast
Finally then we come to the most controversial vehicle Tesla makes. The Cybertruck’s axe-like styling has certainly got people talking, and getting one in the UK has proved very difficult. One person in Manchester found out just how difficult after his Cybertruck was impounded by the Police.

Love it or hate it, you just can’t ignore the Cybertruck, and this Cyberbeast is the fastest version you can buy. It’s powered by three electric motors which produce a combined 845hp and 930Nm of torque, and it has a claimed 0-60mph time of just 2.5 seconds.

That’s some seriously impressive performance when you consider this thing weighs a colossal 3,104kg. That’s about 400kg more than a Ford F-150 Raptor, or the same as a Mazda MX-5 with an adult hippopotamus in it. The cost of all this mentalness? £150,000.
So that’s the cars, but which will come out on top? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
