5 cool features of the Polestar 3

There are so many electric SUVs on sale these days that it takes a lot to stand out, and the Polestar 3 does thanks to its bold styling and lovely interior. It’s not a case of style over substance either, because it’s also great to drive and it has an impressive 403 miles of range.

The boot may not be the biggest in this class, and having all the controls routed through the touchscreen can be fiddly, but these are small niggles in what is otherwise an excellent electric SUV.

This car is packing loads of cool features, ranging from stuff to make day-to-day life that bit easier to luxuries which are just very nice to have. Here are five cool things about the Polestar 3.

1. Cinema-quality sound

You can get the Polestar 3 with a Bowers and Wilkins sound system which packs 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound. This essentially makes you feel more immersed in your music by bouncing the sound around the cabin, and it almost feels like you’re sitting in a theatre.

It’s not just the power that impresses though. There’s also a clever system which uses the speakers in the headrests for making phone calls so you can hear the person better, and you can even set it up to replicate the acoustics in the Gothenburg Concert Hall.

2. Silent on the move

Not only can that Bowers and Wilkins sound system generate a lot of noise, it can also cancel out unwanted sounds thanks to clever noise-cancelling tech. It detects sound waves such as wind or road noise and plays the opposite sound waves to cancel them out.

This, in conjunction with the acoustic glass on the rear window, helps the Polestar 3 to be properly serene at high speeds. You do have to go for the optional Plus Pack to get these features at a cost of £5,000, but we think it’s worthwhile.

3. Google-based infotainment

Too many infotainment systems are complex and fiddly to use, but Polestar has got around this by going to the people who make smartphones to help design their software. The Polestar 3 has Google services built in, so using the touchscreen is almost exactly like using your phone.

You get things like Google Maps and Spotify built-in, almost negating the need to pair your phone to it. We’d still like a few physical buttons for things like the climate control, but this is easy to forgive when the screen is so simple to use.

4. Practical touches

The Polestar 3 has a cavernous interior with loads of rear legroom and plenty of cubby holes, and while the boot isn’t the biggest in this class, there are a few clever features which make it more practical. For starters, you can lower the rear air suspension from a button in the boot to make it easier to load heavy items, or to make it easier on your old dog clambering in.

The floor also pops up into a divider to stop things rolling around, and it has shopping bag hooks on it as well so your groceries don’t go flying when you unleash all 510hp. There’s a big under-floor storage area as well.

5. Keeping your cool

If you’re a dog lover then you probably want to do everything in your power to keep your pooch comfortable. Well the Polestar 3 has a dog mode which will keep the air conditioning running if you leave a dog in the car to nip into the shops. It can detect people or animals automatically and will switch the air conditioning on by itself if needs be.

The sunroof has a special coating which can filter out UV rays to keep the cabin from feeling like a greenhouse. It also means you don’t need a sunblind, which creates more rear headroom.
