Car changing is a big deal
Porsche has just confirmed the arrival of an all-new electric Cayenne by the second half of the decade, and it’ll be sold alongside the current petrol-powered Cayenne.
- Porsche Cayenne EV confirmed
- All-electric luxury SUV coming next year
- Will share parts with the Macan EV
- Up to 800hp possible
- Will be sold alongside the existing petrol versions
It’s been less than a year since the heavily-revised Cayenne went on sale, but Porsche isn’t resting on its laurels. The Stuttgart brand has just announced an all-new, all-electric version of the luxury SUV will be revealed in the second half of the decade.
It’ll serve as an alternative to cars such as the Volvo EX90 and Mercedes EQE SUV, however the Cayenne EV will still be sold alongside today’s combustion-engined model up to and beyond 2030.
New Porsche Cayenne EV motors and batteries
While exact technical specifications for the new Cayenne EV are still under wraps, Porsche has confirmed that it’ll use an enhanced version of the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) collection of parts which underpins the Macan EV and the Audi Q6 e-tron.
This means you can expect to see a 100kWh battery and a choice of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive motor configurations. The Macan can manage up to 381 miles on a charge in single-motor form, however the Cayenne may be able to improve on this with a few tweaks to boost efficiency.
As for performance, the Macan EV has 639hp if you go for the Turbo version, however this collection of parts is capable of making much more than this. Up to 800hp could be possible in flagship versions, however you’ll have to wait for the official reveal to find out exactly how fast this EV is.
New Porsche Cayenne EV: when can I buy one?
Porsche has confirmed that the Cayenne EV will be available “in the middle of the decade”, meaning you can expect to see a full reveal in 2025. There are millions of test miles to complete before then though, so you’ll have to make do with the current petrol-powered Cayenne for now – or check out other electric SUVs like the BMW iX or the Audi Q6 e-tron.
Speaking of the current Cayenne, it’ll be sold alongside the electric version with petrol and hybrid engines up to and beyond 2030, with the V8 being further refined to meet ever more stringent emissions regulations.
