Smart automatic cars Discover the Smart automatic range and compare new, used and leasing deals

Smart’s most recognisable models from the past - namely the ForTwo and the Roadster - were always automatic. But these older Smarts had a dreadful style of automatic known as an automated manual, so things are much better these days. Smart’s current model line-up is fully electric, which means while they don’t technically have an automatic gearbox, they drive just like they do - with P-R-N-D gear selectors and two pedals.

Smart automatic car range: current models

Smart’s come a long way since its two-door CityCoupe, and now sells a range of electric SUVs.

Smart #1

The Smart #1 is a small electric SUV with impressive performance and lots of room for passengers. Both the regular powertrain and the high-speed Brabus model are fully electric, so they operate like they have an automatic gearbox.

Smart #3

The Smart #3 is based on the #1 but with a more sloping roofline and generally swoopier design. Like that car it’s fully electric and as such drives just like an automatic.

Smart small cars FAQs

In all its history Smart has produced very few manual cars - and now, it’s a fully electric brand, so all of its models including upcoming ones will drive like automatics.
