5 cool features of the new Tesla Model Y

Car changing is a big deal
The new Tesla Model Y is here, and it’s a huge improvement over the old car. After spending a few days with it, here are five things we liked about it.
This is the new Tesla Model Y – a heavily-revised version of the UK’s best-selling electric car in 2024. It has a new look, an improved interior and a few mechanical tweaks to make it nicer to drive, all of which have made it more appealing than ever.
We’ve spent some time behind the wheel of the new Model Y, check out the review for our first impressions. But first, here are five features which stood out to us.
1. The new rear light bar

Rear light bars aren’t uncommon on modern cars, but the Model Y’s is especially cool. Rather than just having an LED strip across the bootlid, it actually projects light down onto a black panel. It sort of looks like the underglow you get on the bar in a trendy nightclub, and it certainly helps the Model Y stand out.
2. It has an indicator stalk

It may seem mental to note the indicator stalk as a cool feature, but we’re glad to see one in the new Model Y. The updated Tesla Model 3 did away with this feature in favour of steering wheel-mounted touch buttons, so it’s nice to see that Tesla has listened to feedback and brought back the stalk for its popular SUV.
3. The rear passenger display

Also new for the updated Model Y is the large screen you get in the back. At 8.0-inches it’s among the largest rear displays you’ll find in a car, if you ignore the crazy 31-inch cinema system you get in a BMW i7. The Model Y’s rear entertainment system allows you to stream videos and play games on the go – perfect for keeping the kids entertained.
4. Launch Edition graphics

The Launch Edition version comes with some unique badging. It may look suspiciously like a Plaid emblem, but Tesla insists it is entirely different. There are some cool graphics on the infotainment screen, as well as in the puddle lights. It may not warrant the additional £8,000 the Launch Edition commanded over the standard dual-motor car, but it still looks neat.
5. Chassis tweaks

One of our biggest complaints with the old Tesla Model Y was the firm suspension, but Tesla has massively improved this for the facelifted version. It’s now much more comfortable over bumps, and some additional sound deadening makes it more refined on the motorway as well.
