Volvo has given us a glimpse at the new EX60 during a reveal event for the ES90 saloon, and it looks very similar to Carwow’s renders from last year.

  • New Volvo EX60 teased
  • Mid-sized premium electric SUV coming next year
  • Design appears similar to Carwow’s renders
  • Could have close to 400 miles of range
  • On sale in 2026 costing from around £60,000

This is the new Volvo EX60, an all-electric equivalent to the brand’s own XC60 and an alternative to the upcoming BMW iX3. Carwow had a go at predicting this car’s design last year in some exclusive renders, and now we’ve got a first glimpse at the official design.

Admittedly it’s just a portion of the rear end, but already you can see similarities between the finished car and our images. The EX60 will be revealed in full next year, and it’ll use an entirely new collection of parts.

New Volvo EX60 design

Back in 2024 the Carwow team had a go at imagining what the new Volvo EX60 would look like, and now there is an official teaser which shows off a part of the finished design. It was flashed briefly in the reveal video for the Volvo ES90 saloon, which you can read about in our separate news story.

The image only shows a small portion of the rear end, and you can see that it won’t have the same C-shaped taillights as the Volvo EX30 or the EX90. Instead there are just two vertical lamp units connected by a full-width light bar, and you have the LED strip running up the rear window.

Carwow’s render of the EX60 gives you a better idea of what this car could look like. It continues Volvo’s “Machined from solid” design philosophy, which essentially means the car looks as though it was carved from a single block of metal. This makes all the surfaces look very smooth and contemporary, all while making it look solid and chunky.

There are no official images of the front end just yet, but expect to see the traditional “Thor’s hammer” headlight design and a smoothed-off front grille. It’ll almost certainly be a cleaner and more minimalist design than the upcoming BMW iX3.

New Volvo EX60 batteries and range

Exact details about what’s powering the Volvo EX60 are thin on the ground, but it will be based on an all-new collection of parts. This means it’s unlikely to share the massive 107kWh battery used in the EX90.

We do know that the EX60 will use a structural battery pack, similar to the Tesla Model Y. This allows for greater structural rigidity and improved energy density, but what does it mean for range?

Well the Volvo EX90 can do up to 364 miles on a charge, however the EX60 will be smaller and lighter than that car. Add in a potentially more efficient battery pack and it could get close to 400 miles of range.

New Volvo EX60 interior and infotainment

Although there are no images of the EX60’s interior, you can expect to see a similar minimalist design to other Volvo EVs.

Expect a similar dashboard layout to the EX90 (pictured)

This means there’s likely to be a large central infotainment screen which controls almost all of the car’s functions, and it’ll run the latest Google-based software – so you’ll have integrated apps like Google Maps and Spotify.

You’ll be able to upgrade the system over time as well using over-the-air updates. Volvo recently overhauled its infotainment software with a new, more user-friendly layout and improved features and made it available to download in 2.5 million Volvo cars worldwide, some being built as early as 2020.

New Volvo EX60 price and release date

You’ll have to wait a while before you’ll see the Volvo EX60 in your local showroom, because the new ES90 saloon is coming out first. Expect a full reveal of this electric SUV at the end of next year, with sales starting towards the beginning of 2026.

As for price, it’s too early to put an exact number on it for now. A lot can change over the course of 18 months or so, however it’ll almost certainly be priced in between the EX30 and EX90. This suggests a figure of around £60,000.
