This is your first look at the new Volvo EX60. This mid-sized electric SUV won’t be revealed until late next year, after the new ES90 saloon, however our exclusive images give you an idea of how the Tesla Model Y alternative will look.
As the name suggests, the EX60 sits between the EX30 and the flagship EX90 SUVs, and it’ll debut an all-new collection of parts and software for the brand which will allow the car to be constantly improved using over-the-air updates – so no annoying trips to the dealer to upgrade your car.
New Volvo EX60 design
The new Volvo EX60 is some way off yet – we’ve got the ES90 saloon to look forward to first – but it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that it’ll share styling cues with other electric Volvo SUVs. With this in mind, the Carwow team has had a crack at previewing this car’s design.
Given that the EX60 will be based on a new collection of parts, Volvo may play around with the styling a bit. It’s still likely to have a clean front end design with no upper grille, and the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlight design isn’t going anywhere.
We’ve gone for a slimmer light design than other Volvo SUVs to help this new model stand out, however the side profile is likely to be similar to the EX90’s with a sloping roofline and muscular stance. The flush-fitting door handles are also expected to be carried over, as is the LiDAR sensor on the roof for the advanced safety systems.
Moving to the rear, you can expect to see a similar taillight design to the EX90’s with a vertical light strip running up the rear window and a sleek light bar across the tailgate. It retains the clean and minimalist look of the EX90, without looking like a carbon copy of that car.
New Volvo EX60 batteries and range
Exact details about what’s powering the Volvo EX60 are thin on the ground, but it will be based on an all-new collection of parts. This means it’s unlikely to share the massive 107kWh battery used in the EX90.
Find out more about the flagship Volvo EX90…
We do know that the EX60 will use a structural battery pack, similar to the Tesla Model Y. This allows for greater structural rigidity and improved energy density, but what does it mean for range?
Well the Volvo EX90 can do up to 364 miles on a charge, however the EX60 will be smaller and lighter than that car. Add in a potentially more efficient battery pack and it could get close to 400 miles of range.
New Volvo EX60 interior and infotainment
Although there are no images of the EX60’s interior, you can expect to see a similar minimalist design to other Volvo EVs.
This means there’s likely to be a large central infotainment screen which controls almost all of the car’s functions, and it’ll run the latest Google-based software – so you’ll have integrated apps like Google Maps and Spotify.
You’ll be able to upgrade the system over time as well using over-the-air updates. Volvo recently overhauled its infotainment software with a new, more user-friendly layout and improved features and made it available to download in 2.5 million Volvo cars worldwide, some being built as early as 2020.
New Volvo EX60 price and release date
You’ll have to wait a while before you’ll see the Volvo EX60 in your local showroom, because the new ES90 saloon is coming out first. Expect a full reveal of this electric SUV at the end of next year, with sales starting towards the beginning of 2026.
As for price, it’s too early to put an exact number on it for now. A lot can change over the course of 18 months or so, however it’ll almost certainly be priced in between the EX30 and EX90. This suggests a figure of around £60,000.
