The Core trim has plenty of cool features to help make driving a breeze. Cruise control, lane keeping assist and a rear parking assist sensor all come as standard. To top that off, you even get 18-inch alloy wheels.

With the Plus, you get a heated sports-style steering wheel, a sportier front grille, and a clever air quality system that filters out pollen and other nasty particles. You also get a blind spot indicator for manoeuvring in tricky situations, and a rear parking camera.

Black Edition Volvos receive black alloy wheels, a fully blacked-out grille with black badges and all exterior brightwork replaced with glossy black trim. You can have it in any colour, as long as it's black. Plus models receive the B3 mild hybrid engine, Volvo's Google-powered infotainment touchscreen and a charcoal suede interior.

Ultra trim represents the top-of-the-line XC40, and is differentiated from Core and Plus models thanks to a chromed grille with vertical slats and big, 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside you'll find Volvo's Pilot Assist driving assistance package, plus a Harman Kardon sound system and panoramic sunroof.

Ultra Black Edition models have the same fully blacked-out exterior trim, but the Ultra trim adds in a panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon sound system, Volvo's Pilot Assist assisted driving features and the option of a more powerful B4 mild hybrid engine.
